How early would you take a QB?

We were only one score losing on most of our games with banged up Cam and a terrible defense.

fix the holes and if Cam is even 50% we can make the playoffs,...

so personally I would not waste a pick on a quarterback. Not unless it’s a 6th round pick named Brady ha.

I'm not wanting to draft anyone in the first 2 rounds but the 3rd I think we should look really hard at getting someone that could come in and play. Hopefully that person won't have to play this year and can develop into a really good backup and future starter

I've read too much about how this year's QB class pales in comparison to next year's. Use the draft to fill holes we have now, and wait for what I feel is a luxury pick until next year, when there talent is supposed to be higher. If Cam's shoulder fails, we're doomed anyways, rookie or Allen, and if it does, we'll be able to get a better prospect easier next draft at that point anyways.

Saw an article suggesting that QB picks not only increase the chance you hit on one but become good compensation or trading picks if you can develop one. With all the school's out there, there are more than a half dozen guys with NFL potential no matter what the pundits try to say. Not that we get Murray but the draft is the best way to get a cheap quarterback to develop. I expect we could still get a good one with our compensatory 3rd or 4th rounder

If I knew exactly how Cam's arm will be, I'd be willing to make an exact prediction, but we really don't know anything here.

If his arm is back in shape and ready to go again, I wouldn't spend a pick on a QB right now.

If it's up in the air, might take a 3rd or 4th rounder if someone with promise fell.

If that arm isn't coming back, it's time to drop a surprise 1st rounder on the best one available.

So many things depend on Cam's shoulder recovery right now, even down to what type of linemen and styles of play to pick. Do we shoot for another WR, or do we check down to a TE or RB in the mid rounds? Or do we go defense heavy and hope we can hold on?

Agree with the thought process but I'd be willing to go as high as Round Two.

looks like the majority either don't want to take one at all or take one with our 5th or 6th.

I'm torn between using our 2nd 3rd pick to get a guy who develop and fill in if Cam misses games.  If Cam misses a few games, I think the value is there to have someone who could win a few to keep us in the playoff chase.  And if he looks really good, and Cam looks really healthy, as mentioned above, we have good trade value.

If we took a flyer or a 5th or 6th, I'd be ok.  If we think they have more potential than what's on the roster, give it a shot.  There's always a chance it's a boom.

But if we spend our first 3rd,  I'm gonna start worrying about Cam.

Go look at this link: http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?type=position

For 3rd+ rounders, you’ve got the solid 2012 QB class (Wilson and Cousins, but way, way better as a class than this year), Tom Brady, Dak Prescott and Matt Hasselbeck over the past 25 drafts who actually were considered good QBs by their team. There were another handful of guys that who started a year or two, but were replaced and never considered close to franchise material and certainly never led their team to a championship.

In terms of true franchise QBs, there are truly two QBs taken in the 3rd or later. Brady and Wilson. That’s it, and this is a weak class. It’s a myth that you can grab the next Brady or Wilson after the 1st (and occasionally 2nd) round. It’s a lottery win.

Also, that whole development and trade stuff is great if your the Patriots and possibly Green Bay. There’s rarely any cases of that outside of Brady and Rodgers/Favre backups. Heck, 90% of all later round QB hits and trades center on Brady and Belichick and we aren’t them.

Hence the reason that if you draft someone every other year in the middle or later rounds you eventually hit on one. How many quarterbacks are actually taken in the middle to late rounds versus the first round? How many first rounders bust as well. Maybe the point is that quarterbacks in general bust more than they boom. So is the answer only to draft one in the first round or decide that most players in the middle to late rounds bust as well so at least the reward is greater if you hit on a quarterback and the cost is very high to trade or acquire one. So maybe the likelihood of hitting one isn't great but given the miniscule cost of a middle or late rounder  versus a first rounder then the risk is small. After all how many middle to late rounders hit at any position?

There’s some drunk ass Duke fans in here... I’m from just outside Charlotte NC born and raised...Panthers fan from the start. I could give a rats ass about the college team rivalries and such, but no actual Panthers fan would say that.  I’m definitely not a what pro QB came from what school aficionado but what fuging pro QB worth a damn ever came from Duke? We don’t tell you how to play basketball, lacrosse , and badminton. Remember you drink a Stella Artois with pinkies out...this Christian Ponder 2.0 cheerleading nonsense while our former MVP of the NFL big boy league gets the chance to work his way back from injury, which he’ got while  carrying this damn team is nonsense. He’s more than earned that chance
