Mortensen: Keep an Eye on Clowney

On Golic & Wingo just now, he said to keep an eye on him regarding teams looking for pass rushing help.  Said the Jets tried to trade for Frank Clark and may look to Clowney next, as he is only franchised and doesn't have a long-term deal yet.

Would you trade our first for him (considering we would have to find a way to pay him too)?

Umm, nope. Those paychecks are going to be big for years down the road. I'd rather see the money spent on newly drafted players.

Pretty sure there's a track record with Clowney being injured. Certainly not his fault, but I echo the sentiment that resources should be devoted to draft rather than overpaying for an injury-prone DE.

I don’t want Clowney but this isn’t Madden guys. Build through the draft...the Panther mantra right? Except Norwell and Norman walked and we used that money to pay KK who disappeared and Matt Kalil.

I don’t mean to beat a dead horse but in the world outside of Madden you simply can’t have some all star team of underpaid over preforming rookie studs. At some point you have to pay the performers and the issue is the Panthers have NOT built through the draft and instead allocated sources in duds.

There is litterally no chance we trade for a guy who is going to be one of the top 5 highest paid defensive players in the league

I agree to build through the draft.  Paying him would really hamstring us, and he just hasn't been as impactful as I expected, nor has he been very durable.  Just posted the question bc Mort presented him as a possibility and there was a good number of posters here who wanted to go after him before he got tagged.

Clowney has made the pro bowl the last 3 years. Addison has never made it and is not in the same stratosphere as Clowney. 

I still say "hell no" to the OPs question because we would have to give up a first and more importantly pay him.
