That's way too many people. I get where you're coming from, but we can't add everyone to the hall of honor.

Honest question, how many people do other teams have in their hall...especially the ones that have been around a lot longer than the Panthers have?

Agreed it’s too many people. I think the ring of honor should consist of 3 players Mills, Smith, and Peppers. They should all have statues and numbers retired.

there should then be a panthers HOF. These names would not sit in ring of honor. Jordan gross and jake delhomme are all time great panthers. But they should not be recognized to the same stature as peppers and smith.

c'mon... you know Smitty was all about that Keep Pounding. Dude was the the most motivated person we ever had on the field, and he came back from pretty bad injuries too.

First ballot HOF. He deserves a statue, and so does Pep.

TD doesn't deserve a statue, and never will. Hall of Honor? Sure. When he retires.

Statues should not be given to just anyone. Statues should be for those who exemplified greatness both on and off the field, and even then, it's a huge huge huge honor that should not be taken lightly. Based on on the field performance for the team, Sam Mills didn't deserve a statue. He played at a high level but he was only on the team for like 3 years. He stuck around to coach, through cancer, and was a shining example of the kind of man that everyone in the NFL should strive to be. That's why he got one.

On the Field Smitty was a beast (but not a first ballot HOF with the logjam at the position coming up, I guarantee it). Off the field, he punched multiple teammates and butted heads with numerous people, and goes on idiotic rants on TV. He was charitable, and probably my favorite player of all time, but the dude doesn't deserve a statue.

Peppers finally grew into his role of leader in the twilight of his career, but wanted nothing to do with a leadership role his first time around. He also phoned in an entire season, shied away from the spotlight, and left on bad terms the first go round.

TD gave everything to the team, blood sweat and tears, and was also a Walter Peyton man of the year winner. Came back from 3 ACL tears and was a leader on and off the field. He embraced his role of a leader not only of the team, but of the community as well. Literally NO ONE has a bad thing to say about him.  His biggest crime as a panther is wanting to play so badly that he refuses to retire while his replacement is in waiting. That's the kind of guy that deserves a statue. All heart, no quit, keep pounding.

The rage from some of our fans when 89 goes in will be music to my ears.

There’s like one guy here who has an unhealthy obsession with hating on Smitty, can’t say I’ve seen much other 89 hate. Sure, debate over whether releasing him was right or not had folks on both sides but pretty much everyone here recognizes Smitty as a top 3 Panther of all time and the heart and soul of the team while he was here. Can’t wait til he’s back officially. Tensions between him and the team have definitely eased since DG was fired and Tepper bought the team.

and after Smitty and Peppers.  I think Cam and Luke are the only ones that will be under future consideration.   Well, maybe TD.

But that would be about it.  Dip into the Gross level of folks and then it just gets flooded w/ folks.

    • I don't see it as drafting a premium player to sit and wait if Walker gets hurt. We need a legitimate swing T. Unless you have a Sewell or Slater type tackle that is pretty much a sure thing, these guys can need some time to develop year 1 just like a QB ideally should. They all haven't played the elite 5 star talent on the edge. If we think another franchise tackle has dropped to us at 19, you have to pull the trigger. The position is just too damn hard to find. If it's just a "we need a tackle and this guy has a T on the board", yeah, move on, take one in the later rounds. But if that guy is there, let him back up and learn a year, then slide him into LT on year 2 of his rookie deal.  I don't see us being able to offer Walker a multi year contract after a prove it year, pay Moton his final almost fully guaranteed year, Hunt, Lewis a center and do a 50-60m extension for Bryce. The 3 most important positions on the field are QB, blindside tackle (usually LT), and edge rusher. Those are the premium positions that cost the most and are hardest to come by. If a starting caliber talent is there at 19 you have to pull the trigger.  I understand the need for a DT and S. I've been on the C and FS train for years. If we weren't staring at a potential Bryce extension, it'd make the decision a lot easier I think. It's just with all these huge contracts I don't see how we can hedge our bets on being able or even wanting to re-sign Walker, especially if he has a bad year. Icky and BC's injuries really hurt our long term plans.  If no blue chip talent at those 3 key positions are available at 19, by all means pass and draft another position. But I think it's pretty safe to say we don't have a guaranteed lock at any of them right now beyond Phillips, and they have to be somewhat of a priority.
    • Not completely accurate. I'm sure Roy is lobbying for him and Larry Brown has spoke put in support too. But Hansbrough has made comments pretty critical and hinting at a need for change. Joel Berry has gone a step further and said the standard has not been met. Scott Williams who was a teammate of Hubert's at Carolina has gone all the way and said it's time for a change at head coach.
    • 4.25 according to the ACC network broadcast. If only this guy was a couple years younger but he’s still a dawg.
