If McCoy does NOT sign....

Recommended Posts

I dont see Shaq getting extended to be honest.

Id probaly work on Bradberry.  He has been solid but not elite.  If we can get a reasonable deal done, do it.  If not and he has a Norman esq contract year, we will be drafting a CB high next year.

They'll both get extended before the end of the season, Shaq probably before the season.

Shaq will have a breakout season this year, he's done well in what they've asked of him and he'll be moving to MLB/S during the 3-4 part of our defense and will be the Sam linebacker during 4-3. If we're really going to run a hybrid system, he's just the guy you need there and he is going to be a big part of the continuity. His youth and lack of injuries doesn't hurt, either.

Bradberry will have a chance to really prove himself this season and I think we're looking at middle to upper pack salaries if he maintains his play. If he has a Normanesque boom, then he'll be able to argue for a seriously top tier salary. Unlike Norman, Bradberry has been a steady, reliable starter throughout his tenure here. He'll make the bucks and it won't be risky.

If McCoy doesnt sign though.  We need to continue on to press to find another interior DL.

It lools like we will have majority 3-4 base.  And right now we have 2 starting calibre guys (unless your plan is to start Butler as well then have no backups other than Love)

Frankly they've both been pretty pedestrian and I'd imagine  they're banking on themselves and a good season for a big contract,  which I'd be hesitant to give them after one finally decent season.

the more I think about it, the more i think we will pay a high price for McCoy--$30-33m over 3 years.  We can't let him walk.  With McCoy and his 7 sacks, we can get away with Gaulden or an average S.
