Rashaan Gaulden Deserves Some Props

He had a very solid night tonight.  Maybe with the signing of Tre Boston, he doesn't feel the pressure of being a square peg trying to pushed in a round hole (even though he was lined up at safety on some of his nice plays).

Regardless, he looks like he can be an impact player, which is something few were expecting after last year.  In fact, he seemed to outplay Boston tonight by some margin.

I'm hoping our overall depth at both safety and cornerback is going to be a pleasant surprise this year.

I'm hoping with this Front 7 we just need safeties who aren't liabilities

It would have to be really good. I hope our secondary holds their own this year. Need both units to play if we want turnovers.

Gaulden looked like he was doing everything he could to earn a roster spot. That's a really good sign. He has the physical skills and is a really smart guy, if he can keep that willingness going through the grind of the next three weeks, he's got a shot.

And Boston... I know this was just his third time in pads with us so far, but he sure was making some "business decisions" on some of those plays. I hope he's willing to be more physical once the season starts.

    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
    • I mean, our TE room does suck but we had other pressing needs and no surefire upgrades in the draft. I was surprised at how many TEs went in the first three rounds. I think most everyone was. You want a guy who projects at least as a guy who has the potential ceiling to be a starter in those rounds and I didn't see 11 of those in this draft. Off the top of my head, I think that's how many TEs went in the first three rounds. It was in that range. That's roughly 10% of the overall picks. Definitely did NOT see that coming with this TE class.
