2019 draft picks

Recommended Posts

I have seen a couple of posters mentioning practice squad for some of our draft picks.

I m here to say now. All 7 will be on the roster.

Obviously Burns, Little and Grier are no brainers.

Miller IMO is also a no brainer but I have seen where some posters think he needs to be on the practice squad. He'll be gone in a moment if we waive him and try and stash him on PS. Too much upside.

We might not have room for Scarlett but same as Miller we'll lose him. I think he has shown he can be a valuable sub for CMC on game day.  I think the battle for the power back is between Holyfield and CAP.

Daly, is valuable and needed for depth. Might clear waivers but it will be extremely risky.

Goodwin, after his performance Thursday he'll be another that never clears waivers.

So IMO we have these 7 players already on the team.

If we waive any of them they won't be on our PS.

I can say our 2018 draft is looking really good now. In 2019 we drafted for need and depth so we better keep them because some positions take a lot of hits and we may need someone to step in at some point. It’s all about that championship, we better be deep enough to maintain high level of play to win it.

I have to say I agree.  We need to start building through the draft and stop having one year rental players if we are gonna have the depth to make a run for championship.

I think by the end of camp Scarlett will be the #2. Daley will be kept for his versatility.  And I think Godwin will be a starting PR.  Yes Mickens is ok.  But nothing seems too big for Godwin. He’s just so smooth.  Great hands.  And has the potential to replace Wright in years to come.  I think he will be one hell of a security blanket with those hands.

I’m gonna add one last player.  Corion Ballard.  No, not for the 53.  But for the PS.  He flashed the other night.  Led the team in tackles and was everywhere on the field.  Should good recognition.   And isn’t afraid to hit.  I like that kid out of Utah.

Little will make or break the draft class. Either Burns or miller should be a legit 8 year panther player. I already said a few times, this was BY FAR my favorite Hurdawg draft class. I didnt like Scarlett was my biggest beef and a former scout loved the guy.

Was it Rivera or Richardson?

Neither,  the Vet love thing is overstated.  Rivera has no more or less love for vets than most coaches.  But plenty of rookies have started for us since Rivera has been here.  In fact, we have started rookies at just about every position during Ron's tenure here.  The list of rookies that have  started for us during Ron's time here is a long one.

Cam Newton
Christian Mccaffrey
DJ Moore
Curtis Samuel
Ian Thomas
Trai Turner
Scott Norwell
Tre Boston
Donte Jackson
Bradberry
Tyler Larsen
Kelvin Benjamin
Devin Funchess
Luke Kuechly
Shaq Thompson
Star
Short
and some others I am probably forgetting

I agree Little will be the deciding factor on the greatness of this draft. I believe he will be as advertised.

So many people that disagreed with the pick and want to see him fail so they can justify they are smarter than Hurney. They look and over evaluate each rep and see nothing but mistakes.

We won't mention that the Tackle position is one of the most difficult positions to transition from the college to professional football.  To further their claim all they have to do is go back and see how many first round OT picks were busts.

Our decision to draft him was solid and IMO all he needs is some coaching.  We arguably have the best OL coach in the league and his assistant is not that bad either.

    • Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.
    • I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.
    • I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
