IF the backups QB continue to perform the way theyve been.............

Theyve had a interesting discussion on this earlier.

Do we bring in a vet?  Shoupd we bring in another guy with tools for Norv to coach up?

Grier and Alllen are pretty much the same QB.  Same size, same mobility, same arm strength, both kids who were #1 coming out of high school (Grier a year older).  Both started their careers looking promising.  Grier im Florida prior to PEDs.  Allen in A&M leading SEC in efficiency prior to injury and kyler Murray taking over the starting spot.

Realistically if both continue to play the way they are, one of them will need to go and we will need to find something else in some form to throw in the mix.

2 options they mentioned

Vet- some older vet is will be cut, some journeyman who has been around the league who youd feel more comfortable sliding in if Cam went down.  The guy could also sit back and help the young project grooming behind

Tools guy-  the guy they mentioned was Cardale Jones on the Chargers who would require trading a late round pick.  Jones is a raw prospect, athlete with a Big arm (some wanted to compare him to Cam coming out).   He has the tools and would give the option for Norv and Co to really have something to work with and try to Groom.  Also would fit replacement to Cam in this offense the best

I would’ve like them to sign a vet instead of draft Grier. They had to know he wouldn’t be ready to back up Cam this year. Unless Allen or Grier(maybe Heinicke?) makes significant strides in these last two games we’re stuck with hoping Cam doesn’t get demolished.

Maybe the guy doesn’t fit what Norv runs but we could’ve had McCown for pennies.

Bring in Colin Kaepernick, he can run the same plays as Cam.

No, figure out a way to get Webb back from Huston. Webb’s value overall and his knowledge of our offense(cam) makes him way more valuable to this team then Kaep could ever dream to be. Especially since I’d put money on Kaep is turning anything down but a starter spot at this point.

Honestly, I’d trade them Grier and a 3 round to get Webb back. Get rid of Allen and Henieke(sp?). But Hurney is an idiot and won’t try for that.

Listen, here's the thing.

If there is a QB on a roster (any roster) on any NFL team who is capable of taking a team to the playoffs, that QB will not be waived or cut.  It's super simple.  Playoff caliber QB's are extremely rare.

The bottom line remains that if Cam can't go, we are screwed.  Gone are the days when the NFL rules allowed your defense to carry your team consistently.  Every NFL teams counts on their QB to win games, and frankly there aren't 32 of those guys in the world.  We're fortunate indeed to have ONE.

Read above post. Webb could float this team on O if needed.

No. I do not want them to sign a veteran QB. As with almost any other NFL team, with a few notable exceptions, if your starting QB goes down, your team is sunk. Again there are some major exceptions to this, but usually that was a team so stacked with talent and good coaching that the system was friendly for a backup to come in and be successful. The Panthers are far and beyond NOT that team. If Cam doesn't play, the Panthers are done. Period. End of story. So if Cam doesn't play, I'd rather have Jimmy Clausen level terribleness out there so we can finally move on from Ron Rivera and his inconsistency, and sadly, have to move on from Cam Newton if he can't play another full season in the NFL.

It's Cam or bust whether we like it or not.

No.  He can't.

Joe Webb is a 10 year veteran who has thrown a grand total of 159 passes in his entire career.  If Joe Webb was an player capable of taking a team to the playoffs, he would have gotten a chance long before now.  This is the same Joe Webb who could not beat out the dynamic duo of Nathan Peterman and Tyrod Taylor for a starting job on a team that went 9-7 and made the playoffs.

Joe Webb is a great story, but a poor QB.
