So now we have bums on defense...

Have you been watching?

Defense has been overrated for a while now

We give up big plays in the run game. Rbs get through the first level without getting touched

And the secondary gets torched all the time

That's not going to happen to a group of great players. 3-4 , 4-3 , new coordinators won't help the bad play on the field

Uhh was everybody watching Sony Michel juke the absolute fug out of our defense? Because that was the main issue, not gap assignments or getting blocked out of gaps. But tackling.

The only thing I’m truly worried about on defense is ILB depth. If Luke or shaq go down we don’t have the backups to come in and make plays. They will get abused.

You know what, after going back and looking at the stats, I am not nearly as down on our defense.

The Pats had almost twice as many offensive plays as we did.  We had SIX DRIVES that were 3 and out!  That's plain horrific!  You cannot put your defense on the field for twice as many plays - against the defending champs no less - and expect to do well.  Our defense played a terrific bend but don't break game all things considered.

Oh, and Brian Burns is the (*&$@ing TRUTH.  I'm not sure why he isn't starting.

I don’t know how much it can be posted, linked, read but football is football. Putting players in the best positions to win and of course coaching them to their strengths overrides any “scheme”

3-4 or 4-3, 5-2, 46... all of that is irrelevant to the rest of it. The thinking is too mechanical and doesn’t adjust for strengths and flaws inherent in all humans.

the personnel we have are still being coached up,.. adjusting to having different responsibilities inherent to a scheme.

at the moment it looks like they are not being helped or being put into the best places for their own individual talents and also don’t look largely motivated,..

that last part just says to me that if we get 3-4 games in and it still looks the same way we will be looking for a new coaching staff....

We have 3 pro bowl NT.  The issue is scheme.

Still sceptical on Poe.

No doubt he was a stud a few years in KC, but he took a sharp decline after getting injured.  Heck Atlanta after his 1 season there was not quickly to even get him a offer.  And actually their fan base, a Rival fan base of ours.  Came and warned us about him after we signed him.  We all lauged it off then came out and had a subpar season last year getting pushed out if the way even on some single teams

Was wishing with him being back in a 3-4 like in KC that he'd look like a stud again, but im still holding my breath waiting for it to happen

    • I do think the rating is fair given how this unit hasn’t proven it with production. I understand you have to rank off production, not potential. However, our unit is also in a position to make this rating look foolish a year from now. We have 4 guys in the WR/TE room who all could legitimately take the next step this year, and catapult our rank. A guy under a lot of people’s radar after we took Tet, Jalen Coker. Mark my words, he will become the star of this room, and be the heir to Thielen.
    • Exactly. You’d think 2-7 wins a year (in a 17 game season no less) since 2017 is going to keep us bottom tier. Every year we say the same poo like we haven’t been a bad team the past 7 years. Until we prove we aren’t a bottom dweller, that’s where we’ll stay ranked. God forbid we have OL injuries like 2016.
    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
