Hall of Fame push for several Panthers (not necessarily who you're expecting)

The preliminary list each year always features a number of folks who qualify for the Hall of the Pretty Darned Good. Let's not take it too seriously, but it is nice that someone outside of this board remembers some of our guys enough to at least throw their names out there.

Gross was a very solid LT for us and easily the best LT we've ever had but I feel like guys like Gross, Minter, and Moose are grossly (no pun intended) overrated by Panthers fans simply because of our abysmal history at OT, safety, and WR. They were very good players for us, but they were never really "special" players. Most fanbases would've long moved past players of that caliber, but we remember them super fondly simply because of how often we've fielded straight trash at those positions.

Luke is the only current Panther I think is a lock. Steve Smith and of course Julius Peppers are destined to get in. CMC is the next current player that will get in if he continues to produce at such an extraordinary level. Cam will have to raise his level of play. The last three years have altered his trajectory.

I think Cam will likely get in because he helped in revolutionizing the position and has a ton of QB records, many that may never be broken.

Way way too early on McC. There have been plenty of RBs who will never sniff the HoF who’ve flashed like he has for a short period (Maurice Jones-Drew, Ray Rice, etc. in recent years). If he keeps it up for a few more years then we can start talking HoF but too early right now.

Cam and Luke would have a shot if they retired today.

This is going to sound strange coming from me, but Cam needs to play well the next few years or he won’t get there.

Cam’s records alone places him in the HoF.

Cam needs rings to really have any chance. The football Hall of Fame is ridiculously hard to get into. There are only 26 modern era QBs(since basically 1950) in the HoF. Maybe 5 or 6 don't have rings and the ones that don't are guys like Dan Marino and Jim Kelly.

Honestly I feel like Sam Mills deserves to go into the HoF more than any other guys from our team's history right now. No offense to Jake, Smitty, and everybody else of course but Sam is THE perfect story you want immortalized in the Hall. He was always told he was undersized and that he would never make it, he proved them wrong and made it and dominated at it in the process, he was a hell of a coach even when facing down cancer, and in the process pretty much shaped the Panther's franchise with his words. I mean, his words were so powerful that the team still uses them to this day. To add to this, he is one of the very  very few things that both Panther fans and Saint fans can agree on (for the most part. still have arguments about who he impacted more.). If that isn't what you want representing the best of your sport then I don't know what to tell a person lol.

Yessir. Unquestionably. We’re waiting on Mills to get in (which is long overdue) then we’ll have to start the push for Swilling. Unfortunately, Vaughan Johnson likely won’t get the nod, but if we can get 3 of the 4 of the Dome Patrol in, that’d be good enough.

    • I tend to look at all of these guys and wonder how committed they are to doing special teams? It's a big deal when you're fighting for roster spots. And we need massive refreshes to all phases of the special teams game. And the idea that four or five of these players could see rotational use outside of special teams would be a win. This team has accumulated quite a bit of dead wood over the last five years and its time to take an axe to some of it. These new fellows have a shot to benefit from that if they can really push. That being said, wow that receivers room is crowded right now. I'm not sure if I was a vet player with more than 2 years experience other than Adam Thielen if I'd be too sure of my future here. Tet is guaranteed a spot, Coker earned his for sure and they aren't done with XL developing yet. That's only two to three spots left for the entire room. It's going to be very competitive and better for Bryce's future, too. Safety and linebacker are the opportunity spots here this season. There's room for the right guy and we may see a starter eventually from one of these UDFAs, either by merit or injury.
    • Aho and Jarvis just gripping it too tight right now. Relax, play their 200 ft game and the shots will start to find the net. Freddie has been excellent and welcome back Mista Svechnikov. Burns.....well, thank goodness for Slavin.
    • Supposedly he plans on staying in college for all 4 years.
