Ian Rapoport: "Cam's WR say he isnt throwing with as much zip"

65.8% overall is sucking it up...

EVERY damn QB missed throws ''lay-ups'' as you call them week 1, and any other week.

Cam looked good vs the Rams, 1st game action in a long time, and put us in position to have won that game save for several miscues not tied to ''missing a lay-up''.

If you're gonna get on his ass, get on DJ's for fumbling, and Slye's for missing a FG in a 3 point loss the way a lot on here ALWAYS did to Gano, get on our staff for mismanaging the clock / drives....but nope, nah, it's easier to zero in on Cam.

Cam has spent his career throwing heaters that didn’t need to be thrown and makes life hard on his pass catchers.  Him taking something off his throws isn’t bad nor a sign of a weak arm.

The only exception to that is that it does enable him to throw some long out routes most QB can’t attempt.

So cam had no fault in the loss, right?

he missed 3 layup throws that would have won the game.  just stop.  if he plays well we'll give him credit, if he sucks it up again we won't.  most of us are panther fans, not just cam fans like you

Saying that three missed throws is the difference between us winning and losing is weak.  That's effectively saying that Cam has to throw at a completion rate of 73% for us to win . . . I mean . . . ok, good luck with that.

How many layups did Goff miss against us . . . I daresay it was more than 3.

No more or less than any other.  I mean, the DJ fumble was well within high percentage field goal territory.  The Slye FG miss was the actual margin of defeat.  Players made mistakes, Cam made some, other players made some.  The cumulative effect was a loss.

But the real story is that if you want to look for "big" mistakes, look no further than the Slye miss.  That one mistake was DEFINITELY worth 3 points.  Whether any of the others had that value is up for some debate.

It was 3-4 but only one layup. The rest was us blowing coverage and getting lucky.

I agree with your overall point.

But Slye's miss was cancelled out by Zuerline's miss.

I mean there isn't a WR out there who could compare it unless we brought back ted Ginn. Our most vested WR is Curtis Samuel and he has played like 20 games as a panther.

This. None of our WRs played with Cam prior to the shoulder issues. Based on the throws he made on Sunday, throwing with less zip would actually be a GOOD thing. One of the valid criticisms of Cam is that everything is thrown like a laser beam with no touch. Essentially everything he threw on Sunday was a touch pass.

This isn't really a bad thing.

Fans get all hyped up about how hard, how fast and how far a quarterback can throw a football. That's not what it's about.

Passing is about throwing to a spot, and doing so accurately.

High velocity can make a ball harder to intercept, but it can just as easily make it more difficult for a receiver to catch. Receivers who caught passes from Brett Favre, for example, would tell you that catching his fastballs could be painful (heck, one guy wound up with broken fingers).

In reality, some of the best quarterbacks historically and even now are not fireball throwers. That's not what makes a good passer.

Exactly. But that doesn’t mean Cam is immune to critiquing as well. This thread is a rhetorical critique of cam. It’s a little heady.

Cam was the 22nd best QB in the NFL on Sunday. Not horrible, but not good either. Very Delhommesque performance. I suspect he plays lights out tonight and week 1 will be forgotten.

Ditto. Yardage wise better than Goff. Situationally worse. Better than Winston in both categories. He’ll be fired up too. Sucks that I’ll most likely miss the game. :crying: besides what I can stream to my phone when I get a second. Stupid Thursday games.
