Gettleman called out by Landon Collins

The safety, who signed with the Washington Redskins as an unrestricted free agent this offseason, has no love lost for New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman. Collins was the team's second-round pick in 2015, and Gettleman demonstrated little interest in re-signing him when he hit the market.

It wasn't so much Gettleman and the Giants' lack of pursuit that has Collins ticked off and anticipating the Redskins' Week 4 matchup against his former team. Rather, it's how Gettleman handled his exit.

“No dignity at all,” Collins told NJ Advance Media. “I didn’t know what was going on. He’s a liar. He lied to everybody. So that’s a man I do not trust. I would hope nobody else would, too.”

Collins expressed a desire to spend his entire career with the Giants, but he figured his time in New York was up amid the flurry of trades Gettleman made on the defensive side of the ball last season. The GM never picked up the phone and now Collins has a six-year, $84 million deal with Washington.

"It sat with me bad," Collins told NJ Advance Media. "Just talk to somebody. Let us know something. If you’re going to trade me, trade me. If you’re going to let me go, let me go. Whatever. Don’t have a decision out of blue like that, for me to do this much for that organization — before he got there.

Guy is definitely building a league wide reputation for being an asshole.  Glad he is out of Carolina.

And people told me this is how you do business, no it’s not, Bill in NE cuts and moves players all the time but you don’t hear players coming out constantly throwing him under the bus, there’s a disconnect somewhere and I told people that was my main issue with him as a gm, you can’t run a business like that

Dude could definitely work on his people skills.

But I agree with Gettleman in not re-signing him. Collins is a one trick in the box safety who can't cover and not worth anywhere near that ridiculous contract the Redskins gave him. He is Eric Reid with one exceptional year on his resume and 3 mediocre ones.

Case in point, The Eagles and Cowboys have curb stomped their secondary in consecutive weeks. If Daniel Jones eats their lunch too, Gettleman will end up looking like a damn genius.

The issue Collins had wasn't with being allowed to walk. Collins says so in the article

Bill also wins championships. That's the difference.

Gettleman may be an arse but sometimes you don't get to know if the organization wants to keep you or trade you. Sometimes the organization isn't sure.

If that is what Collins refers to as a lie he may need to get a helmet.

    • This season only ends one way... We win this Sunday. Bryce is decent. We take back 1st place...   Only to then get our brakes blown off in the last two weeks.
    • Here's one of the most maddening things, that will be shown in full light over the next three weeks. The same people around here that called Darnold a bum and Mayfield a washed up over draft are also the ones saying Bryce is a catastrophe. Yeah, and I've been one who said Bryce wasn't big enough, brave enough or capable enough. I said back in the day that Darnold had a lot of fight in him and got shouted down. And on Mayfield, heck I didn't know, I just knew we had a very, very bad team that was run terribly. But I saw both of those guys go out there and resurrect their careers and be play-off bound since shaking the Carolina clay dust off their cleats. And we sat there and cat called their cars as they pulled out of the parking lot, laughing at what nobodies they were. Over the next three weeks, those two guys may just serve us sh!t sandwiches and then settle down to their just desserts. And then we'll probably let Bryce go off into the realm of other teams. And when that happens, will we see him coming back, better than before and we're left to re-sit this cycle all over again? Same naysayers, same results, same revolving carousel of ponies and pundits?  Will we end up looking like the Temu version of the San Diego Chargers back in the day watching Drew Brees come to fruition in the previously moribund Superdome while we whiff on a Manning pick just to be jilted for Phillip "Always a Bridesmaid" Rivers?
