Kyle Allen - No.1 Pro Style QB

How did he go from #1 High School Pro Style QB to undrafted? He set the Army Bowl record going 12 of 18 for 183 yards at the 2014 Army Bowl All American Game. He beat out two QBs at Texas A&M including Kyler Murray to win the job. Then decided with a few weeks left of his Sophomore campaign he was transferring to Houston where he lost his job after 3 games and decided to declare for the draft knowing he likely wasn't going to get drafted? 

The whole story is ultra weird and we are lucky for having him here but what a weird background!

It’s interesting, I was reading some draft profiles on him and it seemed pretty much everyone thought he has all the physical tools to be a great QB in the NFL and all the struggles were mental. Seems like he’s starting to put that all together which could absolutely mean he could be a franchise QB.

This is how I feel as well. He shined in bright moments. The High School Bowl game, beating an Auburn team that was on their way to a National Championship before he ruined it, beating out Murray,  winning a bowl game MVP... and he is just 23 years old now. We may have lucked out big time that he went undrafted and for some reason took an opportunity here vs one of the local teams closer to Texas/Arizona area.

Yep. Different guys develop at different rates. Could just be a late bloomer which would explain everything we have seen.

Lets be clear, Kyle Allen made A LOT of money yesterday.  Now I don't know if it's starting money or not, but between that and the game in New Orleans last year, the guy will get a ton of shots to be rostered as a backup QB at the very least.  Think about how Lucrative Matt Flynn and Chase Daniels careers have been while mostly just holding a clipboard.  If he balls out more, he has the potential to make even more money with possible starter money, but right now I still view him as a very good backup (who I remember still being on his hype train in the preseason when everyone jumped off).

I take it as maybe college wasn't for him in this aspect.  I've heard pros say when you're in college it's a big deal, but it's also not your "job", you still have other things going on, where as in pro it's your livelyhood and every work day you are immersed in it and not partially focused on bio or calculus.

I know it's an Apples-to-Avacado comparison, but it looks like the same could be said about Joey Slye so far..

College Stats:
2014 - 71.4% FG Percentage
2015 - 76.7% FG Percentage
2016 - 71.4% FG Percentage
2017 - 68.2% FG Percentage

So far this season, it's a shock when it doesn't go right down the middle. Also the #1 Fantasy Kicker through 3 weeks.

High school rankings are always shaky.  Quite frankly you can never be sure how a player will work out in college, especially at QB.

He has a very casual demeanor about him that a lot of football men don't like. It's a hold over from the old days of scouting where they want that Parcell's statue at QB; super serious, lives and breathes football, no nonsense, blah blah blah. 

Several QBs in the league have had to deal with this bullshit; Cutler being the most famous. Now of course Rosen is getting steam rolled out of the league for similar reasons. The NFL doesn't like players, especially at the QB position, who don't toe the "the nfl is the only thing I care about" line. 

That is of course changing. Obviously guys like Kingsbury and McVay don't give a poo, but they're part of a younger generation of coaches that's coming up. 

Kyle was unbelievably casual in demeanor out there yesterday. When his red zone pass got batted down, I noticed him laughing and holding up two fingers, saying he missed by "this much." That kind of behavior at the QB position rubs a lot of coaches the wrong way.

We all see this poo in the workplace. We all know people who fail to get the project/job/promotion because a boss doesn't like them or they act differently. The world of sports is no different.

I'd like to use this post to reiterate also that every other word out of Allen's mouth is an f bomb and I love it.

      Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.

      Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
