Is Short a bust?

For one season, he was the most feared D-lineman in the league, and rightly so. He got a big contract from that and rightly so. Over the next few years he cooled down a bit and moved from monster to darned good to reliably solid with a few flashes.

He's not a bust if viewed away from the contract and really, all of the criticism of his current play is based off of comparing to that monstrously good year he had in 2015, a year that every player on the team played well above their abilities.

He's a darned good interior lineman with few, if any, weak spots in his game. Guys like that are never busts, but they are guys that can make for a good, solidly built team. Now about that money... yeah, too much, but what are ya gonna do?

  This is typically ridiculous.

His ONE sub par season(last year) he was still a top 20 DT. His play hasn’t regressed nearly as much as it is being made out to be.

If he's not overreacting, he's not living.

A bust? No.

Overpaid? Yes. Thats due to a lot of reasons.

He’s still a good player but plays better with good players around him. 2015 team made home shine. He got paid. Star left. His play has declined.

In essence his pay is going to hurt the team, especially now that he was extended. And just like CJ, I don’t expect him to return to 2015 form or be above average the rest of his career.

How much do you pay a DT who has been a ghost for 4 years?

But the contract is part of the performance. He has done nothing after it and got paid to be top 10. And for some of you to even put CJs name with his is disgraceful. CJ worked his butt off for his bloated contract and was regarding high sack counts till his twilight years. KK is 30 and has had two monster years.

    • The panthers are such a trash organization at this point that all the huddle can do is argue about which panthers team is historically the worst…good times.
    • Well, hope they're not worried about a torn Labrum or Rotator Cuff, as someone who went through that myself, I know those don't have anything show up on X-Rays but from the MRI, so this is kinda a nothing update, hope it's not a tear or his season is already over if they decide to do surgery now. Which is basically what would be needed to get him to 100% for the start of next season's training camp if it's a labrum.  If he plays the season with it and then does surgery, he's not going to be ready for camp and probably not the start of the season either.
    • I always try to not pay much attention to a team’s preseason win/loss record. The 1982 Washington and 2021 LA Rams both lost every game in the preseason and went on to win the Super Bowl, whereas the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Cleveland Browns both won every game in reason and went on to lose every regular season game. There’s many examples of teams that lose in preseason that go on to have good seasons, but equally there are teams that lose in preseason and that continues in the regular season. Which will we be?  I think our floor is a handful of wins, while our ceiling will probably be around the 9-10 win mark. The latter will require significant improvement from the whole team and coaching staff, and will also need Bryce to play like the QB we drafted him to be. I want to be optimistic and predict a winning season, but it’s really difficult as a Panthers fan!
