Cam Newton now considering surgery

Cam Newton is now considering surgery to repair his injured foot according to reports ..

 

"This week, however, that situation may have changed.

Almost certainly out for the season, Newton is now considering surgery to repair the Lisfranc injury in his foot, sources say. The procedure, which would come in the next week or two, has a recovery time of eight-to-10 weeks -- three months at the most."

This just adds to the confusion surrounding his situation. It was reported last week that a surgery was not recommended.

This also will put a giant damper on any trade talks that may transpire.

Actually would help with a trade. Wasnt going to pass a physical before after surgery more likely too.

Wait, I thought the Drs said he was good to go?  Then he was put on IR and now he elects to get surgery.  This situation gets more weird as it unfolds.

It's not really weird if you simply go by the assumption that the reports before the bye were just wrong. Those guys are often wrong and just putting stories out. Doctors can say surgery is optional and not necessary and Newton can mull it over. It doesnt have to be a scandal just because we get tidbits and try to connect dots.

This is true. Reporters are always looking to stir the pot. “Not recommended” is likely to bring much more attention to the story than “optional”. This seems like the most likely scenario.

Conversely, Cam could just be grasping at straws since he hasn’t seen the results from the rest and wait game. This happens a lot in the real world when patients aren’t seeing the results that they expect. I can only imagine that a hyper-competitive professionally football player would feel the same way after 2 months of rest. Again though, the recommended recovery time table to lisfranc is 9-12 months normally so that could be what the doctors have told Cam and he doesn’t want to wait that long.

I guess Cam is tired of being told that his injuries can heal without needing surgery only to have to turn around and get surgery at the last minute. Just a terrible situation.

He should speak with Ryan Kalil about his experience with surgery and get it done ASAP.

Thanks for the update as always. Question though, how would this put a damper on trade talks if he is recovered by February/March?

QB with previously sprained foot sounds much better than QB recovering from foot surgery.

What makes you think that a trade is an option? I personally think we would be crazy to trade him, you dont give away a franchise qb, injury history or not. Players get injured and come back almm the time and the potential of a healthy cam is worth being patient for. We can keep Allen for cheap either way.

Will this increase his chance of staying for next year or does this make any difference in that decsion?
