Apparently the math says going for two was right

It was a great call by Ron just a bad play call by Norv.

I am really impressed Ron is listening to someone running the analytics.

for all of you bitching about Ron consistently, you need to tip the hat when he goes off script and actually makes an adjustment.

if we convert that two point conversion and then cmac scores right there, Ron is getting coach of the year talk nationally. Unfortunately, the execution of a Poor play call negated what might have been.

for the record, this is coming from someone that has called for this coaching staffs heads.

From the article  - evidently this is in english and makes sense to people with pocket protectors.

While the aggregate expected points in the go-for-2 scenario is equal to that of kicking extra points, you tilt the odds of winning in your favor by lumping the two missed points from a double failure into the 25% probability at the bottom, and spreading the +1 of converting the first 2-pointer and then kicking the extra point into 50% probability at the top.

Should be a footnote that says - "unless your team has clearly demonstrated a repeated inability to punch the ball in from 2 yards out . . .

I actually kind of understood the move. Rivera didn’t think we were going to get another two possessions to win it. On top to the fact that were against Rodgers and the refs were cheating us at any chance they could get I support the call.  But I also think it put some unnecessary on Kyle.

Yet again when is the national sports media gonna hold ron rivera accountable and criticize him for making stupid in game calls that are just blame stupid? Belichick, Payton, Tomlin, Carroll, John Harbaugh, Andy Reid, and other great coahes would kick the PAT in that situation. Ron has cost this team alot of losses and the national sports media always gives him a pass no not anymore as a panthers fan enough is enough!

I like the decision to go for 2. With 12 minutes to play, it's a one-score game either way.

As a road underdog, your goal should be to avoid overtime at all costs. What's more likely in that situation. You stop the Packers at least twice in regulation plus OT if they get the ball first, or you score, get the 2, force one stop and score again to take the lead with a touchdown?

If you fail on the conversion, you know how aggressive you must be with your playcalling and mold your strategy around the result. A 6-point game also opens the door for two field goals with that much time on the clock

    • So answer the question. Why did Chark and Hurst have the same metrics (go look them up, I did... and one was actually worse in LA) with Justin Herbert? Why did Mingo have the same metrics with Dak? You're right, there is a common denominator, just not the one you're trying to make.  Why could DJ Moore get open with Bridgewater, Allen, Cam 2.0, Darnold, Baker, Williams, Bagent? I'll answer the question for you - because he is a good WR unlike Chark/Hurst/Mingo.
    • I mean I just don't understand the argument. Baker and Sam both have been pro bowl QBs post their time here. And you just said yourself that is due to him having a damn good roster around him and they are well coached. You're even saying the bad baker is still there somewhere, but he is in a good organization with good roster and coaching that they are getting the best out of him. Why does Baker and Sam get all that benefit of the doubt but when it comes to Bryce it must be a BY9 problem, not an org or team problem?  Hell I got a guy below you arguing with me that Chark/Hurst/Mingo sucked because Bryce wouldn't throw them open. It's ridiculous how far the stretch goes.
    • Correct.  It’s really hard to get open in the NFL when opposing defenses gameplan and cheat coverage/routes on all your players because they know your QB can’t make certain throws/plays.   magically no one that comes to Carolina can get open or make plays with the ball in their hands…..it’s like there is one singular common dominator to it all.  BY makes playing defense way too easy.   NFL players are too good to allow one side to cheat coverage and not respect all the potential threats of a route  so you can dial up a great play.  But if corners and safeties just cheat coverage and know X and Y happening on route/threats….getting open gets hard when they just play it one way.  Getting open has a lot to do with the different threats a WR can pose on a given play.
