Can we afford to keep Gerald Mccoy, Shaq Thompson, James Bradberry and Mario Addison? While being able to sign someone like Andrew Norwell who is going to get cut from the Jaguars?

Yes.

However that would be something that only Marty Hurney would do.

I wouldn't actually mind it honestly if the prices were significantly cheaper (Emphasis) if we retained those options with a better coach and lost out, drafted Derrick Brown in the first and Ashtyn Davis/Richard Lecounte III. Then signed Logan Ryan a star corner who is underrated I think our Defense would be nasty.

Nah. Most transition GMs would do it too. We're clearly a transitional team at this point, and the smartest thing to do is minimize personnel change and maximize cap efficiency.

IF we're going to keep all those guys as I suggested, it'll have to be at a bargain price. McCoy and Addison don't get more than $8M under next year's cap between them, and I would go closer to 6. Bradberry is going to cost the most, but I would let him walk if he's asking for much more than $10M in the first year of a new deal. Shaq is worth about $7-8M in 2020. If we can average about $6-7M across the 4 of those guys, we come out ahead. Short needs to restructure badly to make it happen.

We will be doing a full rebuild, Addison and McCoy aren't likely to want to live through that, and both have the ability to make more than we should offer them, unless they both want to just retire in CLT, and that ain't really the type of player I want on a very young team.

I do not agree that we are transitioning, I think we are fully rebuilding around a couple of core guys.

Hurney absolutely F'd up with the Trai and KK restructures...I DO NOT want to see us do that crap again.  Jesus that was stupid.

Anything that we would spend on an off ball linebacker not named Luke I would prefer to go toward the offensive line.  We absolutely have to get that unit right, then we can worry about defense again.

Bradberry I would sign.

QB
Kyle Allen  - Glorified backup, currently unfit to be a starter
Will Grier - okay beard, okay sideline skills

RB
CMC - "OMG guys he is totally the greatest RB of ALL TIME. OF ALL TIME"

FB
Alex Armah - good at catching people that break into his car, plays an obsolete position in the NFL

WR
DJ Moore - He's okay. I still say he's too soft, but he is improving
Curtis Samuel - Decent body catches when he's open, but for the love of all things please don't touch him or expect him to not run out of bounds to avoid contact. SOFT
Jairus Byrd - Good third down WR on a bad team

TE
Greg Olsen - old, slow, injured. Probably done as a Panther this season.
Chris Manhertz - glorified extra blocker that even does that sub-par
Ian Thomas - on any other team, the future at the TE position

OL
Taylor Moton - probably our best OL right now
Dennis Daley - probably our second best OL right now
Greg Little - his head hurts
Daryl Williams - Trash. Absolute trash. $6M worth of trash.
Trai Turner - Really really underwhelming this year. Almost as bad as Daryl Williams IMHO.
Matt Paradis - The healthier of the Kalil redheaded step brothers. And he's pretty overpaid, too.
Tyler Larsen, Brad Lundblade, and Garret McGhin - JAGs and warm bodies, at this point.

DL
Gerald McCoy -  our best DL right now, but getting worn down fast
Kyle Love - our second best DL right now
Vernon Butler - never thought I'd say this, but he's playing pretty hard and doing enough good to outweigh the bad
Efe Obada - the same lunchpail guy he's always been, but playing out of position due to injuries
Woodrow Hamilton - JAG with a decently cool name
Stacy McGee - I have literally no idea who this is
Wes Horton - I thought it was a good signing, but I can't say I've seen him other than on the sidelines last week

LB
Luke Kuechly - GOAT MLB but he looks lost/slow at times this year
Shaq Thompson - Has shown flashes, but is inconsistent and just as lost as everyone on defense at times
Mario Addison - Sacks are good, but he's overpaid and inconsistent
Brian Burns - Good when he can see the field, but he seems to get hurt a lot
Bruce Irvin - Veteran presence, but needs to be more situational than we've been using him
Marquis Haynes, Christian Miller - Both have shown flashes, but either can't see the field or get healthy
Jermaine Carter - generational talent at recovering onside kicks
Andre Smith, Jordan Kunaszyk - can't really see the field

DB
James Bradberry - our best DB, which isn't saying much
Eric Reid - National hero and very good Safety, especially in the box
Donte Jackson - Fast. But all talk, no action. He never came down from that great pick earlier in the season.
Ross Cockrell - probably our 2nd best CB, if you aren't playing favorites. I'd like to see him at FS some, actually.
Tre Boston - Hard hitting. Not so great in coverage.
Javien Elliot - I had higher hopes for him, but he isn't that special.
Corn Elder and Cole Luke - JAG warm bodies

ST/JAGs/Why do these guys have a job?
Reggie Bonnafon & Mike Davis - nah, let's force it to CMC all the time
Donte Moncreif - lol who?
Brandon Zylstra - lol who again?
DeAndrew White - Hard headed
Colin Jones - Coach Rivera's son
JJ Jansen - he has one job. ONE JOB.
Joey Slye - I thought he looked pretty cool for a kicker until I realized he was going bald
Mike Palardy - Team MVP most weeks

IR
Cam Newton - GOAT Panthers QB. Should finish his career here under better coaching/line.
Dontari Poe - Underachieving against the run. Needs to take a pay cut or hit the road under a new regime.
Jordan Scarlett - We hardly knew ye.
Kawann Short - I'd want to quit and go to IR too, as much as we were getting run over. Needs to restructure his contract.
GVR - Thanks for making way for Daryl Williams. Seriously, thanks.
Everyone else - I don't care, tbqh.

Oh this was mostly in jest. I'll do a serious analysis of the Panthers roster, and what the plan should be going into the 2020 offseason like I normally do.

Maybe. If I don't get too burnt out on the Panthers and football in general. It isn't looking to good at this point. I'm already not going to watch again until Ron and Norv are canned.

I had multiple laughs reading this, thanks a ton Bronn.

”Generational talent at recovering onside kicks.” will have me still chuckling tomorrow, as will “Stacy McGee: I literally have no idea who this is.”...because I didn’t either.

Taking shots at Allen will not bring a healthy Cam back.  Cam was injured due to ineffective OL and refs not protecting him from direct hits, and I’m kind of relieved Allen is still not on IR too.   For a rookie with that OL and coaching Allen is doing as well as can be expected.

Pretending KA is anything more than he is won't turn him into a Tom Brady 2.0 or even a Tony Romo 2.0. We once tried that with Clausen until we all had to wake up.

Besides Kyle Allen, Shaq, and Bradberry...who would you keep from this list?

If the price is right:

McCoy, Cockrell, Irvin, Boston, GVR(good backup), Addison

All of those guys have been solid and would be good candidates for veteran gap fillers as we build through the draft.
