Rapoport: Rivera the hottest coaching candidate

Mr. Scot

Of course he is.  Which is why if Tepper doesn't hit a home run with the next hire he's going to look like a reactionary idiot.  Especially if his judgement was based on a season in which we were essentially starting a rookie QB and had more than half of our lines go down with injury.

Rivera is basically a Garrett clone in almost every category aside the fact he has made it to the big stage. which I suppose is a big one and a new environment could bring out the best in Ron. He’s got to learn to think outside that box though.

I think he’s a great choice for the few  teams stuck in a shithole the past 5+ years.

Well yeah, of course he is. He guided a 2-14 team to three consecutive division titles and a conference championship within five years and has a .546 winning percentage. Contrary to what some couch general managers here think, he’s widely respected throughout the league and gets along well with players. Most teams, especially those with openings, would see it as a clear upgrade.

He can be a good coach but it was time to move on. He didn’t produce results and it was best for the organization and him to have a fresh start. Eventually the same message year after year wears off on vets and the results never improved, even in his “area of strength”. Our defense is absolutely terrible, with enough talent to compete, and the results cannot be blamed on Cam being hurt

I mean John Fox got hired and made it to a SB, it’s no surprise he’s getting another HC job.

Doesn't mean it’s the right decision. Fox, Fisher, Lewis and Rivera are essentially the same coach. All antiquated, old school, defense first, bad adjusting, terrible game and clock managing conservative coaches.

God bless the team that hires him

A barely over .500 career coach who only produced three winning seasons in nine years is the hottest candidate on the market?

Damn, this market sucks.

I think fans get so focused on their own bubble they sometimes don't see the big picture happening elsewhere.

I mean the majority of franchises have been worse.  Ron did things here....most franchises haven't' done in the same window.

Ron brought home multiple division titles in a tough division, a conference title, an all time historic season, and Super Bowl appearance.  How many teams did better than that since 2011.  Yeah, we can name several.  But most franchisees didn't see that success and some are comically not even close.

Belichicks are near impossible to find.  But Ron Rivera types are also not easy to find. Most teams are looking for one because they have had worse.  Only ones that don't want a Ron Rivera type are ones that just had one.

Ron would be a great hire for most teams.

Would you be happy if we hire Jason Garrett when Jerry Jones fires him?

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
