The injury excuse on defense ....

Here's the guys you 100% keep on defense.

DT-KK short, McCoy if he signs a relatively team friendly deal (would not blame him one bit if he gets paid somewhere else)

Edge- Brian Burns, Miller

LB-Luke, Shaq

Secondary- Donte Jackson, Reid

Everyone else I'm either cool with letting go or finding a better replacement- Now obviously not EVERYONE is getting replaced or cut so my priority positions are in order NT-CB-FS-EDGE

Edit: I am making a big assumption here that Bradberry gets paid somewhere else this offseason but otherwise I try to keep him too

I don't mind thr 3-4, the line's personel is completly backwards. Those need to be run stuffers and block eaters not pass rushers. Our D this year is a completle failure to address the run ans only the pass. Even when healthy, its just better pass rush and still a failure against the run.

Whichever direction they go in, i am fine as long as they don't commit to players that don't fit that direction. What we have right now is a complete disaster and should be enough motivation to pick a clear direction and need to make those tough decisions. If the players don't fit, get something for them or cut them. Enough square pegs into round holes BS we have had to endure.

I love me some Luke, but what is the point of a "rebuild" around a player that albiet the greatest of this generation, likely wont be around more than a few more years? By the time the "rebuild" is done, we will be wishing him happy retirement and hoping he becomes a coach for us.

Ohh..you dont mean a rebuild, you just mean a new defensive scheme? Cool. New coaches and coordinators incoming. Changes are sure to happen.

Because if you have a good culture, franchise, owner and HC then Luke could be like a Ray Lewis who still helped the Ravens win another SB late in his career. But yeah we really ain’t that

can Burns play 4-3 olb?

Nope, not like TD or Shaq.

Probably best to draft a thumper ILB, NT with the collateral we get from trading Luke and free agency.

Then put KK and Butler as the two ends of our new 34

Lol at this take, we don't have a 3-4 NT and right now Obabda / Horton are being asked to anchor at 3-4 DE when they are true 4-3 guys, the 3-4 has given us the best sack season we've had in years. We have no depth, you resolve that with FA / draft acquisitions.

ILB - Shaq / Kuechly -- Off ball, chase & cover

Edge - Irvin - Pass Rusher

DE - McCoy / Butler - both were better known as penetration guys vs the run / not space eaters

Doesn't matter that we have 5 1st rounders in the box when the guys around them are playing out of position / scheme. The transition was always going to have growing pains, the Ravens went through it when they took Lewis from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

4-3 Pass rush capable DE's are not coming out of the college draft classes as frequently as 3-4 edge rushers, the personnel available is what you have to consider, you're going to get better prospects via the draft for a 3-4. We are literally in the first year of the transition.

Give us an offense that can score / maintain a lead and that will help the run defense as well. However we won't do that until the real QB1 returns.

I like Bruce Irvin, McCoy and I like Poe too.

the middle really stopped working when Poe went away.

    • I am too. Frank became completely disinterested in the HC job after the draft.
    • down 24 and we get our first possession in the 3rd and what happens?  run TE checkdown TE checkdown run run run RB checkdown TE checkdown run TE checkdown incomplete TE checkdown run now on the 4 yard line- Renfrow TD and POOF!  3rd quarter is over.  That's not a team even trying to get back into the game in reality.  That's just the Panthers taking freebies to make it look respectable in the end and guess what? Bryce gets to pad on 6/7 to his stat line in exchange for making the 3rd quarter disappear.  Not sure the hyper focus on the depth of the corners.  Cardinals were going to simply drop and allow the easy stuff underneath.  Which they did.  Did they play a random short yardage play a little different? Sure.  That doesn't' mean they weren't just letting the Panthers overall eat clock to bring the game to an end.  The Cards strategy was fine on D.  You just don't generally see teams implement it as early as they did but they were up pretty big.  It's the other units for the Cards that fugged the plan up.  again, it's 3 drives,  the ONE in the 3rd quarter and only drive of the entire quarter and the 2 to open the 4th.  Cardinals gave Bryce stuff in exchange for clock  (and the result was slow long drives eating the clock).  The rest of the game? They didn't.  The rest of the game outside of those 3 drives the Cards weren't in garbage allowance mode and Bryce stunk
    • But a serious question is, does he not see a guy come open because he misses seeing them on the field, which happens to every QB, or, is his vision blocked by the wide bodies in front of him instead of the helmets other QBs experience? For instance missing a wide open Chuba. Did he not see him or could he literally not see him? I tend to think the latter is a far bigger problem than we're being led to believe it is.
