really all you want out of grier is for him to show enough we could fleece someone for a draft pick

the team is not going into next year with either of these guys as their projected starter

or the fanbase will be stretched rather thin for a minute

If I were the type to bet on football I'd take the Panthers over the Colts. Brissett is terrible and he's trying to lead a team built for Andrew Luck. It's amazing to me that the Colts are not on their way to 0-16.

He's not a terrible QB, just an average one. He falls on the "conservative/ball protection" end of the journeyman scale. If you build a team to work around him(defensively stout), he can work for you.

You are correct that the team was built for a much more dynamic QB, however.

Will we know we have something in a QB?  Kyle Allen looked pretty great his first couple of weeks too, and now we are talking about benching him for Will Grier.

I agree.  Right now, the Colts (and everybody else) has no film of Grier in game situations.  That helped Allen for about four games, too.

I'm not dumping on Allen, he is a backup QB (perhaps like Grier, we don't know) and a backup QB should play anywhere between a series and about four games.  If the backup is going to play more than that, he had better be either an ex-starter or somebody who is being groomed for and near the point of being the next starter.

As for the ideal outcome, unfortunately that is losing a close game.  As was said, losing it because of defensive "porousness" would be the ideal, because at least we might learn Grier has potential.  But we really can't expect to learn any more about him this season.

If Grier plays well, and then again the following week, even if we lose 4 spots in the draft, at least we know we have something at QB.

No. We don’t. No film on him. Playing against a team as bad as the Panthers with nothing to play for

he may be Tom Brady the second, who knows,  but these two games aren’t the place we know we ‘have something’

no offense meant in my response
