Panthers coach Search Update (Dec 28 UPDATE)

From everyone he interviews Tepper will learn something.   Something about the team...players, front office, strategies....ideas for moving forward. He will likely interview quite a few people and you can bet he will be picking their brains.

Calm down....this coaching search is definitely a process.  That's why he wanted to start early.

Word is that whoever gets the head coaching job will have a say in who  the new front office hire is.

I know a lot of people aren't exactly thrilled with that idea.

("ass backwards" was the preferred term, I believe)

My God, that can’t be true. Can it?

Just like when Hurney was hired to find his replacement. Who turned out to. be. Hurney...

Be honest though, that's what we all HOPE is happening but we also don't know that is what is ACTUALLY happening. I don't hate him starting early, I am definitely concerned that he will hire McCarthy. I had no doubts about his judgement initially but deciding to keep Marty around really shook my faith in that.

Person said he wouldn't. And since we now have at least one official head coaching interview completed with no mention of any consultant being brought aboard, I'd say he was right.

Jason LaCanfora reported that the plan was to check out several people. Granted, "check out" doesn't necessarily equate to "interview".

McCarthy is simply wooing Tepper preaching analytics and Tepper is loving what he is hearing with that. The problem w Tepper is he is a smart business guy and likes hearing stuff like that, but he has NO idea about the football aspect. I have no clue why he is the only guy making the decision on the coach. Also screw Hurney

Honestly, I’m not pro or anti McCarthy. I’d rather a 4-3 defensive coach with Scott or someone I don’t know with full control of the offense.

But serious. McCarthy would kick Hurney in the balls over bad draft placements. Even more, who doesn’t want to see what Cam could do with McCarthy calling the plays and coaching him.

Can't we find someone with some new ideas? I don't like McCarthy.

Cliff Kingsbury isn't exactly tearing it up in Arizona.  Hired because he was an impressive, young college offensive mind.  On the flip side, people were saying the same thing about Andy Reid (like McCarthy now) when he got canned from Philly and moved on to Kansas City.  Andy was a has-been HC with nothing left to offer a new team.

Young and new isn't always the answer just like an older retread isn't as bad as it seems.

Why do random people on a message board think that Tepper knows nothing about football? Or knows any less than other owners? The guy has been a football fan his entire life. So that puts him on par with a normal fan..Then you have to realize hes incredibly intelligent. That at least puts him way ahead of anyone who posts all day on a message board. Then he has actually been part of a successful franchise ownership group. It's just absurd for anybody on a forum, especially this one to question anything about what he knows about football.

Jerry Jones knows a lot about football. doesn't make him a good owner.

Because he is keeping people like Marty Hurney to be the GM and he is interviewing Mike McCarthy. That is why I am questioning his football intelligence. Not to say my stance won't change, but the stuff Ive seen so far is poor.
