That sounds like the guys in MLB years back who are currently eating their words(or are unemployed).

Wait what?   The MLB is pretty much all analytics at this point.   Launch angle, OBP, homer or bust, etc.     Beane continues to field insanely cheap and successful teams based on math and farm systems.    Same with teams like Twins etc.

He has what Tepper wants. Analytics. Analytics dictating football equals failure, look at every team that has tried to go “analytics” in the past.

Which teams are you thinking of? People throw around analytics, but very few teams are actually using analytics heavily in their in game decision making, which is what a coach is responsible for. The one current team that stands out that uses analytics heavily is the Eagles with Doug Pederson and they won the super bowl 2 years ago with their backup qb and made the playoffs this year with 75% of their team injured (albeit in a weak division).

I'm not going to sit here and pretend I can critique the hiring. I don't know much about Rhule and wasn't part of his interview. None of us have spent time in his locker room or heard his description of his vision to Tepper. He turned around 2 programs that aren't traditional recruiting powerhouses, suggesting he gets the most out of his players and can develop a winning culture quickly. Let's hope he can replicate that in Carolina.

Folks loving/hating this hire need to chill....  Haven't played a single game yet... I do look at this as a high risk/reward hire with his limited experience but he turned around 2 programs that were just awful.  The guy deserves our support and we should give it to him until he gives us a reason not to.

That's my point. When the analytics guys revolutionized baseball front office moves, there was an old school contingent who were afraid of that change and poo on it. Well.....guess where they are now?

The reality is, any hire is a crap shoot.. Rhule is no more of a risk than McDaniels or Bieniemy.. or McCarthy for that matter.  Acting as this is a "bad" hire is equally as uninformed as it being a "Home Run".. There was a methodology that none us us were fully privy to, and apparently the guy hired checked the boxes- that's the key narrative here.

Heaven for bid the dude actually gets to coach some before final judgement is cast.

This is a colossal shock.

This organization needed a shock to the system. Rhule has a track record of developing a winning culture. Speaking for myself, I am here for it. #RhuletheSouth

Not a huge fan of abandoning a carefully planned process because you fell in love with somebody during an interview. It’s easy to fall in love with people during interviews. They typically bring their A-game and the good interviewers study you and know what you want to hear. Hopefully it works out.

How do you know anything about their "carefully planned process"?  I swear, people are seriously talking out of their asses today.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
