It's why you don't spend high draft picks on MLBs or LBs for that matter. Even the best ones only last 6 years.

We have the best and the worst luck with middle linebackers.  All three were amazing all pro caliber players, but Kuechly outshines them all as a complete player and a general on the field.   I know it's best for him and his health, but can't help but feel heartbroken to have lost an amazing part of this organization.

I wonder if there is another team in the league that has drafted as many 1st round LB's and RB's as the Panthers over the past 20 years?

Certainly seemed to be a big part of our identity since the team was brought into existence.

This team seems both blessed and cursed at MLB. We've had an embarrassment of riches at that position in our short history but none of them have lasted long.

Maybe we should just trade the next one we get for his sake and ours. Maybe he'll avoid the curse.

Like running back, it's a position that doesn't directly equate to wins, and they are two of the hardest positions to play long term.

We keep drafting em high though.

RBs and LBs take a terrible beating. Certain skull shapes don't handle that beating as well as others.

I would never draft a LB high because they don't have a high enough impact on the game, and they're likely to break down faster due to the trauma. It's better to have average LBs and cycle them through faster, and spend the saved resources elsewhere. The Panthers are ass backwards from the way I would do things.
