The lack of commitment or reciprocation from the team is impossible to ignore. If this is how they push out Newton they need to bring in a franchise quarterback. It's just a very ugly mess.

its obvious what is going on. The team has told Cam that they will be trading him, but out of respect for the franchise have asked him to keep it on the low, and keep media at bay. Cam is being a good partner with the franchise, and knows that he is auditioning for his next team come march.

"There’s a lot of different things that can happen, but first is, is he healthy?," Tepper said. "Tell me that and then we can talk." It's a cop-out answer, as the Panthers aren't going to have a definitive answer by the time free agency starts. The Panthers' dissembling since Newton's Super Bowl week assertion that he would be back seems to suggest a team that is ready to move on, but the truth remains elusive.

Cam Newton said during Super Bowl week he absolutely would be back with the Panthers. Owner David Tepper's response: ‘'Is he healthy? Tell me that and then we can talk.''

When Panthers General Manager Marty Hurney was asked about quarterback Cam Newton‘s status last week, Hurney would only say that Newton is rehabbing from surgery to repair the foot injury that ended his 2019 season.

Newton’s health was front and center in Panthers owner David Tepper’s answer to a similar question on Tuesday. While Newton said he will “absolutely” be in Carolina this year, Tepper maintained that there isn’t much to discuss about Newton’s future until they know he’s healthy.

“Listen, I’m not a doctor,” Tepper said, via Steve Reed of the Associated Press. “I’ve said it a million times. Is he healthy? He’s not a doctor. There’s a lot of different things that can happen, but first is, is he healthy? Tell me that and then we can talk.”

It’s not clear what date the Panthers have in mind to make a call on Newton’s health and firm up their plans for the quarterback position in 2020 and it seems unlikely that their answers are going to change until they reach it.

Of course that’s what he said.  Cam’s not gone unless his health doesn’t check out and those that have been salivating at the mouth to get a good ol boy at QB will try to extrapolate more from Teppers comments than that, but that’s all it is.  Teppers not going to commit to Cam until his health status has been made clear.  If Tepper has proven anything its that he means what he says, nothing more nothing less.

Does not sound like someone putting the message out that Cam will be the leader of the team next year. I don’t understand the vibes they are putting out on Cam. Why wouldn’t you at least fake it to help trade value. What the benefit of being so bleak?
