Marty Checking out Herbert

Piecing it together for y'all with my conspiracy theories:
Marty was at Auburn earlier in the week, if I am not mistaken. He also met with Brown at the Combine.  Now he is in Oregon-after seeing Herbert play in the SR bowl--and after Herbert refused to acknowledge whether he has spoken to Carolina.  In addition, Jerry Jeudy met with the Panthers at the combine, as did Javon Kinlaw, who said that Matt Rhule seemed to really like him.

Now they are calling off the visits for a while---

I am not certain about Simmons.  There is no indication that anyone has visited him.  After the combine, I wonder if he is an option, anyway.

So what do we KNOW:

Campus Visits:  Derrick Brown and Justin Herbert

Other First rounders with whom we have met:  Jerry Jeudy, Javon Kinlaw

Here is my conspiracy theory, free of charge:  The photo seems to indicate a private workout in Eugene (correction: Thursday--today--was Oregon's pro day).  Herbert did not answer the question about meeting with Carolina at the combine during the Cam controversy.  If we are interested enough to fly 3000 miles for a private workout (if that is what it was), we met with Herbert at the combine.  If we asked him to keep it quiet, that would explain his answer; in another interview, he answered the question about the Patriots.  Brown is the realistic pick, with Jeudy and Kinlaw possible if we trade back.  However, if they like Herbert enough and he falls far enough, they will take him.  Remember that they also like Florida International's James Morgan, a raw QB with the tools to develop for a season behind Cam.

So if Herbert falls to #7, he is the QB of the future.  If he does not, we either take Brown or trade back; someone might fall in love with Love.  If we move back, Kinlaw is the pick, and Jeudy is a possibility as well.

What happens to Cam?  If they can trade him, they will--if they get Herbert.  If they do not, we just re-signed Allen and will draft Morgan. Cam could play in 2020 or he could get the commitment he demanded--on this team or another.

I can say that I am impressed with Cam's hard work.  He is Hongray.  I just think the timing is wrong.

    • Who were we going to trade up with? The Dolphins wanted Proctor, the Rams were vehement on taking Ty Simpson, the Ravens wanted Ioane, and the Bucs werent trading with us except for maybe a kings ransom. Even if we wanted to move, we had no partner. Moot point.
    • Devin Lloyd is a stud lb but who is next to him? Prince and Nic should improve. Lee was super value but i am not counting this fourth round chicken yet. I would expect some improvement; hope to eat my words w/ a top ten D.
    • I mean I agree about diminished Cam probably still being viable. Even though it gave a preview of how teams would defend the pass against a limited QB. There was an issue with the upcoming contract he was due to get and his expectations vs the new reality of his physical status - that people tend to  overlook when looking back on it  It had an effect on things I believe   But I do have to ask… what about Tepper’s second major move? fuging clueless   I mean I would take even an injured  Cam over Bryce all day long.
