This year's draft could get really interesting

Interesting as in "train wreck" interesting...

Word is that several GMs (Elway, among others) have been asking the NFL to postpone the Draft because they don't feel like they've had time to adequately prepare.

According to Florio, the NFL is refusing.

The Draft is scheduled to begin four weeks from today.

So yeah, things could get really "interesting" if the NFL doesn't budge and a lot of teams wind up going into the draft without adequate preparation.

Us? We'll be going in with Marty Hurney and a group of college coaches who have little to no experience drafting, so...

I thought this was gonna be a Hurney thread. :crying:

Well, I suppose it could be

But to tell the truth, it's more about how GMs across the NFL feel like they're not gonna be adequately prepared for this year's selection meeting.

And if so, that could lead to some ensuing craziness.

I miss when the draft came on all day Saturday and all day Sunday on ESPN and you could just tune in when you wanted or take a nap on the couch watching the later rounds. This crap now is an overblown spectacle. Look at last year, some douche country singer I’ve never heard of was on there analyzing picks. Lol.

One round a night would be awesome. Something to look forward to every night. More time and space to talk about and profile the players and teams.

Also, all teams have the same amount of time, it’s an even playing field. If particular GMs are asking for more time or a postponement, it’s because they think other teams have better front offices who have done a better job preparing.

They’d be crazy to postpone it. There’s no technical reason why you couldn’t do the draft from home. Tougher than a war room but with no sports going on at all you’d have a captive audience for every pick. I understand the lack of prep but we had the combine, we have the tapes and many pro days already happened (not sure if any were cancelled). Private visits might be the only issues. If there are teams that hadn’t prepped, oh well, that’s on them.

Honestly I would rather the draft just happen without any news coverage and we get a list of it the next day of who was drafted by which team. Then we can spend hours analyzing each player. Who cares if you get to see it in real time.

With all of the tape of these guys, the completed combine on most of the top players, the level of technology that allows meetings remotely and removal of travel time from the equation the only issue I can see left is questionable medical information. It's not perfect but it should work.

As for us? I will belive change when I see it. The last two drafts have been less than impressive. You don't build great teams by hitting on one good player and one maybe player while constantly going against the strengths of the draft.
