Unemployment thread

mods move this thread if you must but there has to be a lot of other huddlers wondering the same things I am about collecting unemployment due to the virus.  Might be a good place to exchange experiences and information and the lower decks just dont get much traffic.

It is impossible to get any answers on the North Carolina unemployment web site let alone a phone call.  Heard last nite on the news that the antiquated system set up in NC was designed for an average of 3000 people signing up a week and now there is like 130,000 signing up or trying to do so a week.

My question is if you are successful in getting signed up what do they base your pay on if you are in a trade such as a restaurant server ?  Do they go by your last tax return ?  It is a very seasonal business so how do they decide how much you are going to get week by week?

Has anyone had any luck or can confirm that they have seen a unemployment check yet ?

I don’t think it will be much help for you but check out the link I posted in the 3 other threads(CV here and in the TB and the small business thread). Might give some info for you.

I know it’s based of your returns. I was on unemployment once and it took about 3 months for me to be approved but when it was approved I received back pay. In the normal process, you almost every time get denied but you can appeal which makes it turn in your favor. Now this is a unique situation. They may have provisions in place to speed up the process.  My little two cent, hope it helped

having a 2019 tax return qualifies you.  But I am not sure how your benefit is figured.  Would assume it would be a weekly average less 50%.   Bill has not passed yet so not sure if advice should be to file for unemployment now or later.  But then when it is the feds kick in additional $600/week.   With state and federal sites being overwhelmed, I would guess you should start the process as soon as possible but look into it yourself.

going to your congressional and senator websites should provide valuable links.  I hate our congressman but his office has actually done a decent job of communicating what is going on.

I know a lot of people out of work right now. My friend's wife is pregnant and she even got laid off. The Texas Workforce Commission website repeatedly crashed due to all the demand and the phone lines were constantly busy. There were people driving into Austin from all over the state trying to apply in person but the office was closed.

poo is crazy y'all.

I'm fine with leaving this thread here in the main forum.

Sorry for all going through this right now. I'm right there with you. My day job has been furloughed indefinitely. My wife has basically been told that it's a matter of when not if she gets laid off. My start up business that was set to take off has been delayed indefinitely. I had commitments in place to pick up five additional distributors that would give me a total of 22 states of distribution, but I'm going to be stuck with my one distributor and current three state footprint until all of this blows over. Fortunately, no one has backed out on me. They're still onboard, we've just gone from an early to mid summer expectation on timeline to a TBD expectation on timeline. In the meantime, I'm working on launching with two major online retailers under a different label. Something I really didn't want to do, but the current situation kind of demands it.

I was working a job in a school through a temp agency and I got canned weeks ago without pay unsurprisingly.  Even just 2 days after it happened my employer wasn't answering phone calls, never responded to the messages I left them. Just sent a generic email to everyone saying polish off your resume and apply to other jobs lol.

I do live in a household with 2 older family members (one is elderly getting part of her late husbands military reteriment income I'm guessing and whatever retirement, social security stuff she gets as well, the other one is a middle aged teacher who isn't working but still getting paychecks. So I know I can survive if I'm out of work for a while although it'll be annoying them that I dont have income.

Right now I'm about to start a trucking school (just got my CDL permit Friday). However there's a pretty high chance there's going to eventually be a statewide (NC) stay at home order if the Corona-virus keeps spreading so rapidly. I'm still starting on Monday and the program's supposed to last 5 weeks. I'd be lucky to get through it all and get my full CDL before everything totally shuts down.

I'm expecting to get told to go back home sometime in the following 2 weeks and I'll just be chilling waiting for this mess to subside so I can go back and finish my CDL training. Fortunate I've got a living situation where 2/3 household members are still making money and the house was paid off a long time ago.

I can't foresee a situation where commercial truck drivers aren't considered essential. No matter what happens, essential supplies are still going to have to get to where they need to go.

    • Bryce just didn't maximize Hunter Renfrow's skills. ***rant incoming*** But this isn't just about Bryce Young mistiming passes to Renfrow so bad that he's going to get Renfrow killed or hurt, this is also about incompetentence by Dave Canales. Renfrow can still play. He's putting DBs in a blender out there---making them play twister at the top of routes to keep up with him, and dumb Dave has the nerve to cut him. How about putting Hunter in the best position to help the damned offense by appreciating his skill set, DC? You're letting Bryce's apparent inability to make an accurate throw, or at least his timidity to push the ball down the damned field cloud your judgment and miscalculate talent---or maybe just miss on talent just as much as Bryce misses passes due to playing pussified football. It's fúcking unacceptable.  Speaking of misjudgment, I don't know if it's Dan Morgan or Canales, but Eijiro Evero is not the business at DC. I have said a few times that his scheme is not conducive to run-stopping efficiency. Hell, and after watching some clips of plays, now I absolutely know why. The gaps are at least half open before the play even fúcking starts. You are setting the opposition's RBs up for success with too much damned space at the line and in the second level. If our guys are taken out in these areas---at the line and in the second level---then the defense is screwed because it must rely on the safeties to cover too much ground to make the tackle. At least put Ransom in who is motivated to seek and destroy if you're going to effectively leave the safeties on an island.  And speaking of rookies, get our two new defensive ends more snaps to see if we can't generate more of a pass rush. For all the good the continued sorry display of defense that you're putting out for fan's to see (Ejiro, Dave and Dan), you may as well get the rookies generously involved. Fúck that money we gave second-rate (maybe second-rate) vets, we need a damned spark getting after the QB. Watch it, it's just another breakdown of the sh¡t we were subjected to last week. I say this with all respect: Fúck you, Dave! Fúck you, Dan! Learn how to run a fúcking franchise. Maximize the players, regardless of what you think you're supposed to do by the book. Cut the dead weight before another season is lost and fans lose interest in September. EE is "Ew!" Or for emphasis "EEw!" /end rant
    • But nobody is saying he is a good deep ball passer.  But the facts are since he's returned from his benching, he has been throwing downfield.  Whether you want to credit the scheme, Bryce himself, or whatever, he has been pushing it deep.  Not to any positive results mind you, but it has been happening.
