Samuel on the move? Philly rumors?

If the Panthers were to listen to trade offers, The Athletic's Sheil Kapadia speculates the Philadelphia Eagles would be among the most likely suitors. The Eagles are a sure bet to add at least one WR in the 2020 draft, but they steered clear of older veterans at the position in free agency and would seemingly sign off on Samuel's age and speed. The Panthers, he suggested, could be enticed with a package involving both picks and players -- like former second-round cornerback Sidney Jones.

Thoughts?

I think they are just playing both sides of the Person speculation to make two different stories to fill space. "He's not on the trading block unless someone offers a lot." First a story about him not being up for trade then one to discuss the "but if" all from the same Joe person statement.

I love samuel. He can be used in a number of ways out the backfield reverses sweeps and short pass deep passes yac. I hope we dont trade him seeing as he is one of my current favorite players but nothing would surprise me at this point. I wouldn't consider moving him for less than the 2 we got him for.

I agree, but the $3m we signed Roberts to play WR4 though? That's what I'm confused about.

If we decide to move on, I get it. But, I'd much rather see what he could do in Brady's offense than trade him for what we could likely get for him in the trade market considering the incoming WR class. If you're a team, what would you realistically be willing to part with for him? I'm thinking maybe a 4th or 5th? Anything more and I think I'd roll my dice on heading into this draft needing to add a WR.

I think someone would have to really wow us with a trade offer or we would have to get a guy early on in the draft. Maybe both.

We aren’t shopping him. Look at Brady’s offense. He wants lots of WRS running layers all over the field. I think Samuel is very much a part of that plan right now.

That was stupid. Again, bidding against ourselves when everyone else was waiting for a historically great WR class.

Exactly. Then you get the rookie contract and the possibility that you strike it right and end up with someone that has more upside than Curtis. Doesnt make sense unless we are also drafting a WR and just want to scrap him for an extra pick. We don’t really have the luxury to spend picks like that.

    • He does have speed. 21+ top end speed is very fast for a linebacker and his 3 cone drill time is considered excellent, close to elite.
    • This is awesome because you get to see the perspectives of the scouts--get a glimpse behind the curtain. I wonder whose doing this was; I am curious as to why David Tepper allowed it. Maybe it was his wife. Maybe Dan.  At least from my perspective--and probably one shared by other fans--when David Tepper bought the team, he closed everything off too much to the fans, and really didn't give an explanation. Things were obviously done because he (and/or some others wanted to do it). Remember when they used the guise of construction and all that to keep fans from seeing the team during practice? I know there are laws and safety and all that, but Tepper could've made it happen. And, of course, we all know that they essentially fired Jeremy from his independent contractor gig as a photojournalist. I never understood why they'd do that (and the negative reverberations obviously affected Jeremy and ultimately this place--i.e, us fans). The pie was (and is) certainly big enough to throw some scraps to the independents. I realize that you can't necessarily open the floodgates, but a few different perspectives from indy journalists whether in word or photos is a good thing in my mind.  So, it's great to see different perspectives. I will say this however: it is not without risk, as you know there will be some buster who will be calling the scouts out if the players flop. I think we should all keep in mind that the buck stops with the GM. It's nice to have one, however, that is so convicted in his people and process--and ultimately success, that he's willing to give fans access to this type of information. Pass this on to Tepper.
    • I hope he ends up being our best ever at the position. Ryan Kalil left big shoes behind that we haven't quite been able to fill since.
