The Patriots, 23rd.  The point is some teams give marginal players more time because they feel obligated to hang on to their draft picks (Hurney).  Others acknowledge a bad pick, cut their loses and move on.

Pretty much.

Somebody tried doing an analysis like this a while back, but the reality is that it ignores so many factors it's pretty much worthless.

I dont get all the Hurney hate.

All of us arm chair GM's can say what we want. None of us would get a SNIFF at the position, meanwhile he has the job.

His results speak for themself.

I'm pretty sure none of us could get an NFL head coaching job either, but Hue Jackson did.

Does that mean he's good at it?

Its pretty undeniable that Hurney has definitely hit on some star talent, particularly from 2003 - 2008, and then again in 2011. However, I also think that "4-year starter" number is a little misleading. The other, bad part, of Hurney being a GM is the terrible contracts he gave out. We've consistently carried a lot of dead money, which I think forced the team to play draft picks as starters, since we've never been in a good position to sign multiple, high profile free agents.

So yes, he may have the highest amount of drafted players that have started 4+ years, but some of those players would have been benched or released if we had better cap management.

somebody posted not so long ago that the most you can expect out of a draft from a good GM is "3-4 impact players"

like lol.

Most teams consider 1 a success.

still I'll wait to see where my criticism does and doesn't lie until I see what we've done with the QB position.

No they don’t. The article literally says most teams get two eventual starters per draft. A success isn’t 1 or 2, it’s 3 or more. Being below average or average isn’t success. Look at the Saints recent drafts that pulled them from behind us to way better the past 4 years.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
