so why did rhule call an onside with 2:00 to go

After that illegal grouding call, probably should have been thinking FG. Every throw should have been in the endzone or really close to it. Otherwise kick the FG with 2 timeouts and a 2 minute warning. I don't think Rhule kicks an onside in that scenario. 

Yep, the mistake was made when that last pass was completed to a dude with no chance to score. The time was more valuable than the yard there.

personally I’d rather take a chance for a first down. they might not get it. Or they might turnover the ball...and yea if the didn’t get it the Panthers would only have like 30 seconds to score.

 

regardless, I think there’s more chance in the latter than recovering an onside kick.
