Guess I'll be the guy.

People make the decision to keep Butker over Gano sound so easy, do people forget that yes while Gano choked ocassionally (all Kickers do) Gano was a DAMN good kicker, very solid. ESPECIALLY after we'd had years of Olindo Mare and a few others.  I'm sure Butker looked phenomenal in the preseason.  But that's only a preseason worth of showing.  Had we have kept that rookie, and he didn't pan out they would've looked like idiots for releasing Gano a proven above average vet.

They still look like idiots now in hindsight.  But hindsight is always 20/20.

Butker hasn’t missed a FG yet this season.  Neither has our kicker.  Move on

Yet we didn’t replace him with Slye we replaced him with an expensive option named Gano who missed FGs. And that is the point.

And Slye missed an XP in our opener - ie he has had a missed FG.

From 2013-16, before this decision, Gano finished 16th, 21st, 21st and 27th in FG%. What about any of that is above average?

Some people are really missing the point. It’s not the kicker. It’s years of boneheaded moves of failure by people still working for the Panthers. Butker is just simply a classic example.

Then people want to say hindsight...but time and time again fans are able to see/call it before it happens over and over and over.  How is Joe Shmoe consistently able to make better decisions than the FO? That doesn’t seem strange to anyone? That’s a problem.

I feel we as poor chump fans, should be wrong more often than not...

You have the numbers behind you; so I can't debate that.  I recall him being pretty good and dependable for us up until his injury.  I could have just been used to some of the horrible kickers from before him.  But I don't remember him being just pure trash here.
