Newsflash:

If the 2020 Carolina Panthers beat you, you are pretty much eliminated from playoff contention.

Well, Herbert had some good moments but his turnovers were the difference and those were some bad plays you'd expect from a rookie. If he can eliminate some of those mistakes I could see them sneaking into a wildcard in the AFC.

Three games does not tell us much.  But at 1-2, with the win against the Bengals, things don't look good for them unless something gives.

They look like a team with a playoff-grade defense.  They've given up 13 to the Bengals, 23 to the Chiefs in an OT game, and 21 against us.  Not shabby.

But, their offense scored 16, 20, and 16 respectively.  If their offense gets to the point it can put up 24 points a game or so, they may be a threat.  Until then, they are going to be close in a lot of games and win a few, but not enough to be a playoff team.

Let's put it this way: their offense has not showed it can put enough points to overcome more than a 13 point fourth quarter deficit against the Falcons.  I think the benchmark to be taken seriously is 17.

    • This guy pre-draft was saying he could take or leave football, and he seems to have been playing with that mentality ever since lol.
    • Agreed, another safety would be nice. Bud Clark, TCU, is one I would like to see us take a flyer on later in the draft, if he stays healthy and we don't take someone earlier. I just really hope we draft a solid C this year. Tired of seeing us cycle through average to below average players in that area.
    • Bryce doesn't like throwing into the middle of the field unless the play broke down or it's set up to give him a passing lane.  So because of this issue, most of the passing offense has to be outside the numbers towards the boundary. So you see him throw a lot of dump offs, swing routes, short side out routes, comebacks or deep balls outside the numbers using the boundary as protection of an interception.    Pretty easy for a NFL defense to see this and scheme against it.  All you have to do is run a shell cover 2 deep dime, LB plays a hook underneath, take the flat away with a blitz/flat zone option for the two inside DB's, outside two DB's play hook zone underneath and carry anything deep.    Pretty much what NO ran to take away Rico while also limiting What Bryce can do as well.
