Trade Curtis Samuel

It’s possible that Curtis ends up in the $6-8M range but looking at the top WR contracts given out in the past couple years that there is no way DJ is going for $10-12M. The best are getting $20M right now. DJ is a notch below that but he’s an ascending player. $15M is his floor unless he falls off a cliff.

I agree, I was being a little optimistic unless covid has an effect on the cap. Anderson is 2nd in the NFL in yards and DJ is 7th if I rememr right. Quite a impressive duo that might really be worth the money including Samuel. It really depends on how well we draft. If we have alot of quality rookie contracts like we do this year then we would be ok. Players imo are more NFL ready then ever coming out in the draft such as Chinn.

Samuel has more value here than he does for other teams. We'll be able to keep him relatively cheap.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but there could be some wishful thinking going on. I've always said that Samuel might be more valuable to another team that actually uses him and knows how to use him. Belichick and McDaniels would probably maximize his talents even more than Rhule seems to be in the process of doing.

On kind of an off note, Rhule seems to genuinely appreciate Samuel.

The Patriots might give us Thuney for Samuel. Belichick has no qualms making trades, the Pats WRs are awful and Cam knows him.

The issue there is that Thuney’s contract is also ending after this year and will command top of the market money so it’s a rental for a rental because the Pats likely won’t re-sign him.

Yep Bolles would be a rental too but it gets them in the building and let’s our staff take a look at them first before dishing out a bigger contract.

Rental for rental is fine by me if we’re trading for one we see as a long term fit

with next years cap situation, teams will be holding on to their draft picks.  Every team is going to need those rookie contracts.

And free agents are going to find out that because of the cap situation, there won't be a ton of teams offering market value.  It's just a tough year to be a free agent.

If Curtis finds this out and is willing to sign a reasonable contract to remain with a young team with a bright future, I think we keep him.  But I don't think we'll be in a situation where we have to choose between a big contract to Moton or to Samuel.  It's going to be Moton.  If Curtis will sign for 5 to 6 mill for 2 or 3 years, it could work.  We're going to need big money the following year for Robby and DJ, so it may not even be possible to sign him for that much.

Trading young players in a rebuild seems pretty counterintuitive.  Why would he not be part of the future plans?  I doubt any team would give us any significant value for him either.

Because hes going to be very expensive next year, and will never be more than WR3/RB3 on our current roster.

Smh. I think samuel is BETTER than what we have seen. He still isn't being used the the maximum of his abilities. Send him to the chiefs and he's better than mecole Hardman and so on. A guy that can really sling it without making him slow down in coverage. He gets open more than Moore does... I know this sounds crazy but I'm not entirely sure Moore is better than Samuel...

Yes after the catch I will say he brings more power and size, but Samuel isn't terrible in that area either. Take away the investment of a first round pick and I dunno man...

He'll be another player we watch walk in free agency and get nothing in return for

Yep, we'll sign Seth Roberts part deux because we want to be "competitive" and lost the comp pick. Instead of just biting the bullet and getting as many picks as possible, we'll fritter them away.

We need a WR3.  Curtis Samuel hasn't done anything for a team to offer him a huge contract.  His stats are pretty on par with last season thus far.  I think people are just making knee jerk reactions off a few nice run plays.  No team in the NFL is going to overpay for a gimmick WR3.  He will be affordable.

Disagree, have you seen some of the contracts that receivers have been getting?  Devin Funchess (who I'd say had shown as much as Curtis had) was given a 13 million 1 year contract in Indianapolis, and after getting injured still got another contract in green bay.  I don't want any part of even 7-8 mil a year for a #3 when we have so many other just GLARING holes.
