McCaffrey not expected to play Sunday

There can be multiple things wrong with a franchise. And history has shown signing rbs to huge second contracts is one of them. You can downplay minor sprains when the dude has played in 3 games out of 9 this season just after signing his deal. Running backs break down quick. That’s just the reality. Has nothing to do with other players getting farewell tours or sitting on the bench or whatever. We want to be a franchise that’s ahead of the curve and allocates money in ways that can bring us consistent success. I hope cmc is not the norm because he’s obviously one of the best players we have and we need him to be healthy these next several years so that we can be a force in the playoffs. But it doesn’t look promising.

The curse of the big RB contract continues.

This is why you don't pay RB's big money. Short careers and some of the highest potential for injury on the field.

Let's hope this is an aberration and not the start of a trend. We can't afford to have made a bad decision on a contract of that size.....again.

I really hope this was just a couple of bad luck plays. If it had to happen any year of his contract I would choose this one.

Hopefully not a shoulder separation. I didn’t see the tackle but always a possibility assuming a fall directly on the AC joint.

I think you are onto something but looked to me like he was poking around at the other end of the collar-bone from the AC-joint....that one is called the Sternoclavicular Joint.  Did some reading and appears that joint can suffer separations identical to what happens with the AC but based simply on the fact we rarely if ever hear about it, seems it's a lot less common.

"What is the cause?

A sternoclavicular joint separation most commonly occurs when there is a direct blow to the sternum or a fall onto the shoulder or outstretched hands that causes a force along the length of the collarbone. It may occur in a contact sport when a player's shoulder hits the ground and another player lands on top of the other shoulder."

This is my field so I’m always watching injuries in real time to try and diagnose before hand. Wish this one in particular had a replay so I could watch and analyze.

Here's a video link:  https://t.co/z7W4p0SUnL

Apparently Rhule used AC joint terminology in a press conference so looks like you had it right.

Take a look at the video, interested in your opinion.

EDIT:  changed the link, put the wrong one in first time.

i posted the video on page 1 of this thread.  can't see too much but basically cmc went down on his shoulder while being wrapped up, arm against his body, with all the lb's weight directly over cmc and that shoulder.   then when he dove out of bounds it got his shoulder got flexed the opposite way.   when i ate shite going just over 20mph and fell like cmc did on the first play i dislocated my collarbone.

Tough to tell from that angle with the marker blocking the view. I hope it’s just a minor sprain and that he’ll be back next week.

I suffered a bad fall a few years ago and jacked up my shoulder, including a grade 4 ac joint separation. For anyone who hasn’t experienced that, be glad because it’s super painful. Had surgery on it a couple years ago and probably looking at another one here soon. I hope he doesn’t have to have surgery, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he did, If it does indeed turn out to be a AC joint injury.

Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise as long as it’s an injury that won’t have long term scar tissue damage. He’s getting way less tred on the tires in a year to where half the fan base is wanting us to lose every game anyways. If he can bounce back next year and play great, he’ll still be worth the money
