I still say Lance has the highest ceiling of any QB in the draft. He's mobile, strong, has good arm talent, and given the opportunity to work with pro level talent and teachers that know how to maximize his talent, the sky is the limit!

Was just going to post the same thing.

They’re not just going to draft a QB to draft one. They’re going to need to fall in love with one. Outside of Lawrence, I think Lance is the one with true superstar potential. Like you said, he has it all. athleticism, size, strength, speed, arm and brain. I’ve been on the Lance train prior to this year.

He’ll wow people at the combine

Yes, I agree he will have a good combine - that's his only priority at this point.  He has the second best arm in the draft.....

with this coaching staff, I think you have to look at their ability to coach up a player in addition to scheme. with past regimes, players have largely had to learn and grow organically on their own. this staff has already shown an ability to coach up players, show improvement week to week, and make adjustments.

with that in mind, you can go with a project like Lance who has a higher ceiling than someone like Wilson. Fields is also a bit of a project, and is probably equal to Lance here. Wilson would be a no brainer for a defensive coach who calls designed runs for a QB 20 times/game. :eyeroll:

This staff, however, can get the most out of talent, and Lance or Fields look like better potential over wilson, trask, or jones.

I'm honestly so encouraged by the last draft with this current, uh, administration that I'm confident they'll make smarter draft picks than we've grown accustomed to going forward. They likely hit on three starters on the d line in one draft, plus an elite secondary player. That's a good start and I think they could replicate that sorta success with young offensive lineman in 2021.

If it's a QB I'm pretty optimistic. It could be a guy with a lot of talent who similarly hits immediately like Brian Burns and Derrick Brown, but if we aren't that lucky I still think Matt Rhule can at least coach them up into our version of Goff and be legit competitive.

Here it is in a nutshell, why I've never really rated Lance:

"Lance's physical tools truly are the most impressive of any prospect since Cam Newton. Look at the kind of juice he gets with a flick of the wrist on the throws below — all traveling 50-plus yards in the air.  The knock on Lance is fairly simple: accuracy. Since the start of 2019, he’s had the lowest percentage of his passing attempts deemed accurate of any quarterback in this top 10 (47.1%)."

Contrast that with:

"There is a lot to like about Wilson for the NFL. He has a quality arm capable of making all the throws and an ability to push the ball downfield. In the short to intermediate part of the field, Wilson can spin the ball and fire some fastballs into tight windows. He also is capable of putting air under the ball to loft in touch passes. Wilson is an accurate passer who displays quality footwork that leads to him tossing precision passes. He is not an elite runner for the next level in the mold of a Lamar Jackson, but he has mobility with some quickness and athleticism to buy time in the pocket and pick up some first downs on the ground."

Which of those sounds like the QB who best fit the Rhule / Brady system?  Straight up honestly, in that description of Wilson you could easily substitute "Brees" and it would sound just about right.

I am still waffling over Wilson vs Fields honestly.  I think they are super similar, but I don't think it's going to come down to us choosing.  Someone ahead of us in the draft will take one of those two.

I’m not so sure. Didn’t he run like a 4.8 in HS? Pretty bad.

Also Fields is a bad decision maker against better defenses. Watch his games.

bro you deadass just like to argue.

I said OSU produces shitty QB's. Haskins, Jones, Miller, Smith, all prime examples - and these were some of their highest drafted guys.

period, that's my opinion.

Im a staunch OSU fan and all their QB's are a product of the scheme/system...i.e. JT Barrett. set all kinds of records at OSU....where he at now.

    • Apparently CSW lost his starting job to Thornton last year. If he can stay healthy I bet Thornton keeps that NB position.
    • I member him staying after practices with only to see he was wearing heavy weight vest, one of his trademarks. He also put in 10 years, right? People forget he was the ST stud that called the snap and made sure everyone lined up right. He was one of the "glue" guys that bought his "lunch pail" to work.... He was a willing solider, all teams need a couple of them. He blocked for sooo many panthers RBs- Davis, lane, Williams, foster, goings and when there was huge injuries he took over the starter duties and had a couple 100 yard games. If you followed hoover, he took the perfect RB path cause he was just a slow heavy one himself....
    • Walker likely depends on a couple of things. What exactly did Dan promise him, to start with.  How much other interest he actually had for a starter job at high pay is another question. It isn’t outside the realm of possibility that he could stay on as a swing tackle waiting to take Moton’s spot when it opens.    I can’t get myself to consider Icky as a viable anything until we see him back on the field.     Hunt seems to be a team player and good guy but I don’t think he is worth what he is being paid. I have him tentatively earmarked for cap causality in the near future.
