They may not be thinking QB

I will go against the grain here, we absolutely need a Mike backer. Micah Parsons and he will be available to us. If we pick up Parsons and a good free agent LB maybe KJ Wright, we would be in great shape. Look at how many tackles our Linebackers have this year. It is embarrassing.

This point should be made, and it is valid.  I would argue that we have to step back and see the big picture--and to see it clearly, you have to look at the situation when Rhule took over.

  • They knew Cam was shot.  So did most teams in the NFL--or he would have been signed to a long-term deal.
  • They scouted Herbert pretty seriously AFTER we signed Bridgewater in March, 2020.
  • Bridgewater's deal is a 3-year deal, but it is front loaded so that there is no guaranteed money in year 3.  Only $33m of his $63m deal was guaranteed.  In 2022, we cut him, save $21m, and $5m goes to dead cap.
  • The tracks have been laid to have the Rhule QB in place by year 2--year 4 at the very latest.
  • Our backup QBs are just that--not future starters.

Many assume a QB will be the first pick. How about if that is wrong. How about if Rhule, Hurney, and Tepper aren't thinking that at all. Maybe they have a completely different strategy then is assumed.

They signed a QB they believed in. Are they going to kick him to the curb after one crazy season? Think you guys may be disappointed with what they will do.

I’ve been saying this all year. Panthers are NOT getting rid of Teddy. He is their guy and they will continue to build around him. You will see a LB pick and most every other move will relate to offensive line. Teddy haters just can’t see it. But they will be happy once Rhule has the chance to get his team in place.

I got a feeling alot of you gonna be mad on draft day when the Panthers don't draft a QB. I for one won't be mad. The Panthers have other needs. Why waste a pick in the first round pick that's not gonna contribute next year. The Panthers have to many needs for that. Micah Parsons is exactly what this team needs. I want a fast physical defense and tough physical o-line. I am also frustrated with Teddy, but Ii can see tha long game with this team. It's not like there won't be other QB's in the college pipeline. The kid from Arizona St, Sam Howell(UNC) the kid who played behind Trevor Lawrence is a great prospect also. If they pick one I wouldn't mind the kid from Texas Elingher in the 3 or 4th round. We played most of the year without our best player. I think with slight improvments the Panthers could win 8-9 games next year.

So...Jets get a new coach...they have lots of needs. They tell Cinci they will take Sewell unless Cinci want to trade picks to get him.  They do...now with the 3rd pick..the Jets find a QB needy team that wants to trade up.Suddenly the Jets have a boatload of draft picks for the next 2 years.

Just a thought.

Normally I’d agree here, but we were only 5

minutes away from picking Herbert in the last draft. It’s on their agenda to draft a qb high.

SMH.....5 minutes away from having Herbert throwing to our 3 speedster!

If only we had not won that meaningless game against the Saints, we could have erased those 5 minutes.

so you believe we should bypass a patient, realistic high upside rebuild for the titillating possibility of winning 8 games next season

wow where should I send my money for PSLs to

I think it’s highly unlikely they don’t like one of  Lance, Wilson, or Trask, which they will have their choice of.

That doesn’t mean a first round, it may mean a trade up or trade down, it all depends on other teams’ willingness to trade, how the draft turns out, and what happens between now and next April (workouts, games to be played, interviews etc.).

With all that said TB is not the future and isn’t ‘their guy’. You don’t give a guy you believe in a 2 year contract. What they did is give him a chance to be their guy and it’s not happening. I’d say it is more likely than not they will draft the next franchise QB in April.

And if they don’t, it still doesn’t mean anything for TB because building is a process, at least a 2 year one, unlike Madden. Maybe they’ll find their QB in FA or maybe next draft.

So if they don’t end up with a QB this year, even though I find that extremely unlikely, I wouldn’t be mad. They know passing up on a QB this year when they have choices and need to do their homework would be a big mistake.

I'm not against drafting a QB if its Lawrence ot Fileds. But Trask, Matt Jones or Lance do not move me. I'd rather fortify the team in other areas. In my opinion the Panthers are 2 years from rally bringing the noise. By then whoever they put behind center will have success.  Please check the resume of QB's that come from OSU, FLA and Alabama.

    • Baker was never at any point in his career a bust except maybe with Carolina, in which we set him up to fail to save the coach/GM. Darnold appears to potentially be a new Geno. I would give it at least another season before I am ready to make that leap. Another guy that would have never been successful here. Jones was never a true bust, IMO. Average to below average starting QB. Also his "ascension" is far from assured. This was far more fan hype as a "bust" than actual reality, IMO. Still TBD, ultimately.  MAC Jones is the same middling game manager QB he was in New England but in a Kyle Shanahan offense. So, if you think Mac Jones is now a "success" is Brock Purdy an elite QB? Is he middle of the road?
    • I’ll answer your question even though you won’t answer mine for some reason. I’m asking you because you were the one who brought up the threat of banning with Icege a few weeks ago and also because I’ve seen in the past a poster that you were disagreeing with get banned basically mid argument and the reason given was that they were a “single issue poster”, but I haven’t seen the same standard applied to people who align more closely with your opinions. OP is one of the most obvious and trashy trolls I’ve seen and yet I’ve noticed you specifically promoting his dead threading to gloat about the Panthers QB being bad.
    • No way do they give him a contract Keep him through year 4 but on the bench and get brisset for next year find that qb in 2027 draft seen enough  nothing short of a prolific offensive showing over the remaining  games against decent opponents justifies keeping him in a starting role next year  ..or Canales as offensive coordinator
