Rapoport: Panthers expected to be in the mix for Watson.

Yeah they do. Their leverage is that there will be no shortage of teams interested in potentially acquiring Watson. Even if he's utterly done in Houston, they still have plenty of leverage.

Watson is a big enough name to have a say in where he goes though.

This is gonna trigger some people, but I'd trade #8, CMC, and Brian Burns for Deshaun Watson with zero hesitation. The problem is the Texans wouldn't take the offer.

I just dont think its necessary. It's not a race to get Watson. The Texans are absolutely fuged right now. They will not get the haul they would if it were the franchise's decision to trade him. They are going get shortchanged by all the possible contenders. It's really going to come down to an A-tier players 9no S-tier) and a couple draft picks.

I'm more worried about SF than NYJ and MIA. I really don't think the Texans trade within the conference. They would be putting salt on the wound. Plus this would be the first move for a new GM, so he will want to prove himself.

Well the big one is Miami but they've said they're not interested, and I buy that given where the head coach is from.

New England could do it and has the cap, but Watson might not want to go to the source of Easterby which is the problem.

Chicago might be interesting, but that would cost them a poo load.

Watson has a no trade and I can't imagine him going to the Jets. Same with the Jags.

I dunno, honestly Carolina kinda makes the most sense.

It is a race. It's a race vs. the other teams trying to get Watson. He's a 25 year old MVP caliber QB. The Texans aren't going to struggle to drum up competitive offers.

AND they have the cap space, draft capital and equally young QBs to swap in such a trade.  WE CAN'T DO IT.  Dream people.  Some folks will always chase a big name, ramifications and consequences be damned.  Just got rid of Hurney, Just got of rid of most of our dead cap, and finally will have some decent cap space.

Nope, chase the shiny object.

We can't beat the Dolphins if they are willing to throw Tua AND the same pick haul as us, true.  That's why we have to outbid them.  Maybe it helps Tua's star isn't nearly as bright either, the whole reason they're willing to move off him in the first place.

    • Ultimately it's up to the other safety prospects to clearly outplay Scott. I think when that happens on tape against other teams it'll be addressed. I think none of them have done that definitively and consistently yet.
    • Night and day difference in the front office investements.  Since Morgan has been in the FO (5 years)....4 out of 5 first round picks have been offensive players.  The one defensive pick was a corner. Expand it out to the first 2 rounds? 7 out of the 9 picks have been offensive.  That IMO is why our D sucks so bad.   You build defenses up front.   Carolina hasn't been investing there.  Ron's first 5 years? 3 of the 5 first round picks were defensive players.  Expand it all to include second rounders  7 of the 10 picks were defensive.  All front 7 players.
    • I think he gets this year to show what he can do.  Last year, we had a lot of injuries. This year, we should have some players, even if we lose one or two.  It's the first preseason game.  Some of the starters weren't even in it.  There is no scheming or game planning.  Let's see how guys do when it counts. I think we have a GM that knows a thing or two about defense.  Let it play out.
