Washington Football Team finalizing deal with Marty Hurney

Brady was the only coach who had ever even been around TB before he signed. Coached him an entire year in NO. But Hurney was the “voice” that made Rhule do this? LOL. OK.

Dude, a first-time OC who just came from college is not going to have enough clout to make a team sign Bridgewater to the contract he got.  Again, if it was that simple, then why is the team already in such a hurry to move on from him?  Sorry but if the coaches were that sold on Bridgewater, they wouldn't give up on him after a year and they wouldn't have fired Hurney.

Which, again... why else do you think Hurney got fired when he did?  Our rookies were playing well.  The team was performing better than it had any reason to.  So, again, why do you think he got fired at the time that he did?  Oh yeah...

Hurney pounded the table for Bridgewater.  Hurney had, by far, the most to gain by Bridgewater performing well.  Yes, Matt Rhule was likely okay-ish with the decision.  But Rhule likely would not have made that decision, and certainly not at the price-point TB got, if it wasn't for Hurney.  Nobody is suggesting Rhule had 0 input.  We're just telling you that if we had to put a % on it, it was 85% Hurney and 15% Rhule.  I mean this is a team that had like 6 or 7 rookies starting on defense.  And yet you think that same head coach really cared if he had a QB?  Rhule and Tepper were willing to go all-in on a tank.  Hurney was not.

i hope redskins fans like hearing

“we needed more depth at RB” after their first round pick

”we had a first round grade on him” after their second round pick

”we think we can convert him to safety” after their third round pick

“we traded up for an H-back” after their 4th round pick

year after year

"you can never have enough good LBs" after ignoring other massive needs to draft a LB on the first or second day of the draft for three straight years

Never felt that Marty was as bad in 2.0 as many here thought. I think he made some terrible decisions in 1.0 mainly over paying contracts.but I’ve understood most of his moves since he started as 2.0 and thought he’s done a decent job.

I know letting Bradberry walk and over paying Shaq looks terrible but honestly I didn’t want and still don’t want us paying too money for a luxury position CB’s are Luxuries. I think Shaq was just in the right place at the right time. If we didn’t resign him we were screwed more than we already were at LBer.

I put the blame of bridgewater on Rhule, him collecting all his old college players and buddy coaches is a huge mistake and red flag to me. If anything I think it illustrated the fact that Rhule is in over his head.

Rhule is our coach now so I will wish him the best and success, and just hope I’m proven wrong later.

He also signed another RB to a huge deal(Hurney 1.0 special), overpaid a LB, restructured KK's deal making some small gains for that offseason and making it harder to jettison him in the future, signed Bridgewater to that bigger than necessary deal, etc. This not to mention reaching on Gaulden, Little, etc. The dude was just not a good GM, even after "learning his lessons."

Who is picking and choosing?

Rhule's college career was based off sucking and slowly improving the team and the culture.  Tepper literally said that this was going to be a process that took time.  Both made it clear they were going to be content with a bad year.  What did either of them gain by signing Teddy to that contract?

And this is why you seem to have struggle understanding what we are saying.  Nobody is saying Hurney forced Bridgewater on Rhule.  Yes, if Rhule 100% was against it, it wouldn't have happened.  What we're saying is Hurney is the one who pounded the table the most for Bridgewater and Rhule, while not the biggest fan of the idea, was willingly to go with it because it was still early in their partnership.

Why do you think Tepper waited to fire Hurney until after Bridgewater officially sealed his fate with his performances and after Rhule began to sound less committed to TB going forward?  Why do you think Rhule and co. are already committed to getting a new QB?

You are. Completely. What he did in college means nothing. And you want to believe that somehow Hurney convinced a coach with total control to make a horrible decision. Why would Rhule even consider a lame duck GM with a subpar resume, over anything he thought. Why does Brady actually coaching TB not even factor in? That’s the definition of picking and choosing. Just to somehow justify that the current staff didn’t have a hand in it. That’s why he was fired when TB flopped. To place blame on Hurney. Exactly what I said would happen back when he was kept on in January.

They are luxuries only when you’re spending $10-12m a year on them

CBs have never been more important than they are now with the game getting more and more pass happy and coverage skills being more highly sought after due to rule changes to benefit passing offense. The old style of defense that de-emphasized CBs by roughing up WRs if you couldn't hang with them just isn't an option anymore. The Ricky Manning Jr's of the world don't make it in the NFL these days.

So basically, every good decision was Rhule, and every mistake was Hurney? Who kept KK? Acquired Okung? Gave Boston a deal? Who signed CMC? We’re all these on Hurney? Who drafted?

especially when almost every team is running nickel formation as their base D, bc 3 WR sets are so common

hurney mixing and matching back there was never going to give us the depth we need to compete in today’s league

What kind of response is this?

We're talking about the signing of Teddy Bridgewater.  Not once have I brought up any of that other stuff or made any mention of picking-and-choosing.  Nor did I respond to a post of yours mentioning any of that, only that you were suggesting Rhule is the main culprit of the TB signing.

    • For me to judge I look at it by group: QB - Improved most likely RB - Improved most likely (rookie upside) WR - Greatly improved (rookie upside) TE - Improved most likely (rookie upside) OL - Greatly improved DL - Slight downgrade (maybe?  Robinson + Wonnum + Clowney < Burns???  Could be equal or better) LB - Slight downgrade (different players - rookie upside) CB - Slight downgrade (rookie upside) S - Push Coaching - Greatly improved To me I expect us to be significantly better overall - but significant over last year means 5-6 wins.
