Stafford didn’t want to come to the Panthers

It's PFT.

Albert Breer has a whole lot more detailed report of what went on behind the scenes. He confirmed that Stafford to Carolina was about to happen until the Rams beefed up their offer.

Just repeating what was clearly  said by Simms on that show and he was direct

i said previously it takes two to tango and I’m not sure the Panthers  are currently a place that free agents want to be

Given the panthers record with free agent, not sure that’s a bad thing

too  how players are treated matters  in essence two Panthers QBs have not exactly been handled very gracefully by the org

No

he stated not New England first and then when the Panthers approached, stafford said ‘no’ er the TV report so their were two NE and Carolina per Simms contact

Why?

What reason/s did Simms give for Stafford's reluctance to come to Charlotte?

Would said reasons similarly affect Watson in his decision making process?

Question, does anyone know who Rhule reports to?

0 playoff wins

10-59 against playoff teams the worst ever (Shannon just brought this stat up on the show)

yeah idk why we would offer up number 8 for what ? 4 years at most for an above average QB ?

panthers not getting him will be a blessing in disguise.

Yes, being in EVERY deal may not be wise, but then again has this new ownership shown us any business smarts on the football side yet.

Remember that stretch between '15 and '17 when the Browns only won four games over the course of three season? Yeah, that's how bad the Lions would've been without Stafford.

I agree but they didn’t win with him  . May as well lose without him and replace him. My idea of a franchise qb differ from most i. You don’t need a stacked roster to win games esp if you’re franchise QB that’s just my opinion . I like Stafford but he came up short his whole career . Nice arm and he truly talent it’s just too late for me to give up 8th for a 33 year old . Is it super bowl or bust for rams next year ?

You can read the full story of the negotiations in the link. It says Stafford preferred the Rams but didn't decline or nix going to Carolina.

Peter King and others have also confirmed that Stafford had a preference (King saying he was "more keen" on the Rams than the Panthers and others) but nobody's said anything about him not wanting to come here.

PFT isn't always wrong but they're not the best source. Breer is a far superior source for anything behind the scenes.

You don't need a stacked roster but you do need a decent one and decent coaching helps too. It's weird how only the QB carries a W-L record. Stafford actually has a very good track record of 4th quarter comebacks. You can only do so much as a QB when you're up against more talented better coached teams week in and week out.

It was fairly clear he wanted to go to LA and the Rams give him a chance to win now.  Detroit with a classy move to do that IMO.

Yeah, this worked out well for both parties. Stafford clearly wanted to be there and the Rams were clearly willing to do what it took to get him there. Now let's see if it works out on the field.

He has had more than enough decent rosters to deal with people just don’t pay attention to Detroit that’s much so they just assume it’s the same ole lions every year  . I just checked their record and they been more consistent record wise than we have during his tender there which is weird  . You know why QBs carry that W-L record it’s the same reason they get paid more than everyone else even when it’s not worthy . It’s not fair but that’s the culture the nfl created

The Lions were reportedly willing to try and accommodate him but they weren't going to take a lesser deal to do it. Stafford didn't really have any leverage to force them to do anything they didn't want.

The Rams stepping up their offer really helped everything fall into place.
