Sidebar - can we all be thankful that that Hurney isn't still here trying to negotiate for these QBs. If you want to have concerns for the future, picture Hurney on the other end of the phone with Houston, Detroit, Philadelphia and the Jets.

I'm bored enough to look.

His trade history:

  • Josh McCown for a 7th rounder (2008)
  • JJ Jansen for a 7th rounder (2009)
  • Greg Olsen for a 3rd rounder (2011)
  • Colin Jones for a 7th rounder (2012)
  • Bruce Campbell for Mike Goodson (2012)
  • Corey Robinson for a 7th rounder (2018)
  • Marshall Newhouse for a 7th rounder (2018)
  • Torrey Smith for Daryl Worley (2018)

He actually appears to be a pretty savvy trader and would be offering nickels on the dollar for these QBs.

The tweet literally reads "This IS year four" aka this will be his fourth season of ownership.

He should have said "season 4", and furthermore you really can't even count the first season, unless you're trying to be a bit disingenuous (which he probably is).

Last year's available quarterbacks included guys like Philip Rivers, Ryan Tannehill and that guy who signed with Tampa among others.

Among all the QB hoopla from last year, the QBs in the draft went exactly where everyone (those that intently follow it) thought they would go.  No teams gave up the farm to move way up Burrow at #1 or Herbert or Tua.  People say, "BUT THIS YEAR IS DIFFERENT!" No, it really isn't, and with one extra starting QB available at the top of this draft.

That one is on Brady as much as it is Hurney. Teddy was Brady's guy from NO so Rhule went along with it and is also to blame. The only blame Hurney really gets is handing him a loaded contract to boot.

Really in hindsight we should have just gone with Cam last year.

I don’t think Cam would’ve played. He was rolling around in a leg cast whining about ‘commitment’.

Would he have signed a deal like TB got that basically screams the opposite of commitment (which is ironic as the Panthers never looked to replace him for 2 years as he rehabbed)? Hard to believe.

Whats easier to believe is he played the FA game on his terms and lost.

But yea I’m with you, I’d rather tell him to suck it up buttercup and send him out there as a lame duck for his final year and save us from TB. But then again it’s  hard to say what kind of impression and environment that would be for the locker room.

Or maybe the Panthers just did what he wanted if there was not going to be a deal out of respect. Poor business move though, we will never really know the details.

Its insanity to think otherwise.  In the modern era where the QB is literally the most important position in all of sports 4 qbs have never gone in the top 10 much less the top 7 but but but this is the year it finally happens.  In reality we probably will still have a choice of 2 between the top 4.

    • Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....
    • I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.
    • We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
