This says more about poor scouting and evaluation than about reaching.  If you believe your evaluation is correct and that player will not be available at your draft position, then it's not reaching.  

It's only reaching if they suck or they would have dropped anyway

We tried.

Bill Polian actually revealed what the Panthers offered for the number one pick a little while back. I don't remember the details but it was substantial.

Edit: Sorry, that was for Peyton Manning, not Luck.

Let's just pick the best player available when our pick comes along at #8. We're a mid-card team trying to move up a weight class and rumble with the big boys. It's not the time to get cute and all tricksy. Just to do your own scout work, really grill the players in interviews, picks smarts over marketability, toughness over charisma and do your best to weed out the busts waiting to happen.

And really, really scout hard for picks in the later rounds. Our coach isn't afraid of youth, so make the most of that.

      As much as I would love to sit here and bash on Young.  I can't.   He is absolutely a part of this team winning.  He is the cool hand leading the offense along with the hammer, Rico.  He's making plays on 3rd and 4th downs, that are absolutely helping thus team win.  Is Bryce playing as well as we'd like? Nope. Although he had only 1 week off from a high ankle sprain.   No question he was 100% in the Greenbay game.  I'm not even sure where the team would find a clear upgrade over Byrce.  He is a leader.  In the 4th quarter, he has ice in his veins.  He is a part of why our team is enjoyable to watch again.  Without him, we wouldn't be winning.    Anyways.  Y'all enjoy yet another thread designed to tear down the man.

      Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
