i dont want to give up mccaffrey taht would be dumb if youre bringing in a qb keep the weapons , id do 3 picks thats it max if not we could wait for a qb , no gaurentee watson becomes a star here its a steep investment which if it goes south could cripple this franchise thats why alot of gms wont do that

NFL insider notes: Don't underestimate David Tepper and the Panthers in the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes

It's LaCanfora, so take with generous portions of salt.

FYI: Link goes to a mock draft by Pete Prisco, dude

Strong words here he may have ears on this for real

There remains some confusion as to what was actually reported, or speculated, or just plain made up about the Carolina Panthers and some trade offer for Deshaun Watson earlier this week.

But I can assure you of this much: Carolina is beyond smitten with Watson and owner David Tepper is fairly consumed by the prospect of landing him and no matter what happens with this transcendent young quarterback (and I still believe he is dealt at some point), the Panthers are going to play some role in the process. They might not be able to secure him, ultimately, and others clearly possess higher draft capital, but when it comes to Watson, Tepper's aim is true and their desire is real.

There's no guarantee but it's about the closest thing to a guarantee that exists in player acquisition.

From the article...

Don't expect the Texans to seriously entertain moving Watson until much closer to the draft – all the better to keep trying to drive the price up – but if/when they do, the Panthers will be motivated to make it happen. Yes, the Jets and Dolphins, for starters, may have more additional draft capital, but I suspect the Panthers will be willing to get quite creative (including emerging pass rushing force Brian Burns in any package may be even more attractive than McCaffrey, though that dual-threat running back could certainly kick start an offensive resurgence for any young QB should the Texans prefer to draft a passer in the event Watson is in fact dealt).

The amount of people not wanting to give up a god damn RB for a franchise QB is insane. Most running backs these days don't have a long shelf life. They can be the best RB in the league one year and the next they are forgotten. You guys remember when Todd Gurley was the best RB in the NFL? He lasted 4 seasons before he fell off the face of the earth. Ezekiel Elliott started showing signs of decline last year in his 5th year. LeVeon Bell only around 4 years of prime before falling off. Devonta Freeman, only had 3 good years then suddenly turned to nothing. Running backs don't last that long. They start declining suddenly around year 4 or 5. CMC is entering year 5. You trade him now while he still has value.

    • I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense
    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
