They have a tackle they are probably scouting there. I don’t think we are going to have a first round pick.

I don’t think anyone seriously believes our coach is going to NDSUs Pro Day and he wouldn’t watch Trey Lance…

Smoke and mirrors

It's not smoke and mirrors for any of those teams.

Any team that's sending their GM and Head Coach to Fargo is investing a lot of resources (think how much both guys make per hour + travel costs).

It's a legitimate trip - you HAVE to take a closer look at a prospect like Lance.

Personally I think he's too much of a risk - had a great season, has a lot of the elite physical attributes you look for, but hasn't played in a year and has very limited experience throwing the football.

If you wanted the league, and at least the fans, to think you were interested in a player, what would you do?

Maybe send the GM and HC to a public event?  Nice way to have teams and fans think they know what you are up to.

At the end of the day, we could very well be interested and take the guy at 8, but again, we might be there as a diversion?  Not certain.  If he were the slam dunk pick we wanted, would we not be having Brady there?  After all, the questions in Treys game are the short passes, the closing window passes, etc, which are a huge part of Brady's offense.

Could be wrong, but I see it as a show.

This could be looked at both ways though. If it’s smoke and mirrors and Brady isn’t there then wouldn’t teams know this was a diversion by Brady not being there?

I think we’re genuinely interested but I’m not sure we pull the trigger at 8 for him. I think we should if other options are not available but he is probably the biggest risk in the draft at QB. I love his traits and character though. Huge fan.

We have huge needs at QB and LT. Their top two prospects by miles happen to be a QB and. LT.

This one is pretty easy to figure out.

Well, they do have a pretty solid LT---maybe that's it.

Not sure if you're joking, but Randunz is expected to go mid to late 2nd. Definitely worth a looksie.

Dillon Radunz had a strong showing in Mobile, where he was named the Senior Bowl overall practice player of the week. He performed impressively at both tackle and guard. Furthermore, stepping up and facing higher-level competition didn’t phase him.

I don't know that teams are really willing to go to as much effort to create smokescreens as some of us think they are. Sending a GM and head coach on a scouting trip just to fool people sounds kind of extreme to me.

Granted it's high stakes poker, but I do think we overanalyze this stuff sometimes.

Have no issue with the LT part, totally makes sense.

Title was about Trey Lance and he asked me about the misdirection comment.

I would love to get the LT, we'd probably have to take him at the top of the second, he'd never last to the third

    • Give me Anthony Hill Jr or give me death
    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
