Also beware the smoked up numbers on 40 times. You pretty much cannot trust almost any of these 40 times.

Agreed. Pro day 40s almost always seem to be miraculously faster than Combine times. Remember when Funchess ran 4.7 at the Combine then supposedly sub 4.5 at his pro day? Sure...

Yep. They are usually hand timed versus laser timed. The NFL laser timing is a little suspect too but at least it is standardized across the board.

Quote

In 2020, Gross-Matos left for the NFL, leaving Toney and Oweh as the starters at edge rusher. Hopes were high for the athletic duo, and especially Oweh, who seemed primed to breakout. He more than doubled his sack totals from 2018 to 2019, and with another year of refinement, excitement began to brew.

On the surface, the results were less inspiring for Oweh. He went the entire 2020 season without getting a sack.

However, these stats were somewhat misleading. Oweh still provided consistent disruption, and he logged career highs in both tackles and tackles for loss, with 38 and 6.5, respectively. By December, Oweh had an 18% win rate as a pass rusher, one of the highest figures in the Big Ten conference.

Coaches recognized Oweh’s under-the-radar disruptive ability, awarding him with first-team All-Conference honors. Oweh also anticipated that NFL scouts would see the same thing on tape. He officially declared for the 2021 NFL Draft on December 26.

You can tell who does their research and who doesn't. 👀

I think a lot of players had issues in the Big 10 with the late start and constant delay/canceling of games due to COVID. It’s another reason why I’m high on Fields. He had a couple bad games in a very unusual year. He was great his previous year and still had plenty of solid games and flashes of greatness this year.

    • I encourage you to go back and watch his college play. Notice how he immediately backpedals to 10 yards behind the LOS on almost every snap. You can't do that in the NFL. Your OTs have no chance of keeping those freak show edge rushers off of you. You can't create a pocket that deep. If you drop back like that in the NFL on a regular basis you're basically on your own. Your OL can't do a whole lot for you. Bryce can chuck it when he has an airport runway in front of him to step up into. There's a reason why "ease of generating velocity" is such a talking point evaluating QBs. It's not how hard or how far you can throw the ball given a perfect situation. It's how hard and how far you can throw the ball in a typical NFL game situation and that's where a lot of my concerns with Bryce were going into the draft. There were way too many plays in his college tape that if you were watching that purely in terms of translating it to the NFL it just didn't work.
    • Yeah, like I said I get it. From a revenue perspective I'm not a good customer for them. They've probably intentionally tanked offline franchise mode to try to get people online. Again, not a terrible strategy from a pure business perspective. I can't really be mad at them for doing what's good for business but yeah, from my perspective it still sucks.
    • Ok let me be more specific. Smith was a stud before Newton got here do you not agree? Yes, LaFell improved under Cam but then had his best years after leaving the Panthers with Cam as the QB and going to NE. So he improved playing with someone else. Olsen was in Chicage the year before Cam arrived and statistically had the same numbers his first year with Cam.  Hope that's clearer for you.
