Mac Jones runs a 4.86 40

People do not get how freakishly fast these athletes are.  I played TE in college and ran a 4.8 (in 1923-5--during the Calvin Coolidge administration) and that was fast.  Now a pocket passing QB with little "athleticism" is running a 4.86.

Must be the steroids in the Food Lion Chicken.

How often does a QB sprint in a football game?  How often does anyone really sprint?  WRs maybe?  That is about it.

Can you elaborate how bad it was? Was the ball to wobbly? The delivery? I'm just checking.

His mechanics are fine. He just doesn’t have the oomph needed for those to be on the money. Both of these throws had the WR had to slow up or wait for the ball instead of being able to continue to run your route full speed and take off once you have it.

You can watch these clips over and over and the only negative part of these plays is the throw. Mac Jones doesn’t lead either receiver. And I think it’s just a physical limitation with him.

Rating arm strength on a 1-10 scale with 5 being average, Mac Jones is like a 6.2.

Slightly above average but nothing to write home about.

I can’t get over the fact that he looks pudgy and out of shape. It not the end all be all, but it really bothers me.

and spare me the Brady comparisons, he’s a one in a million player

See?  I hope we have dispelled that myth.

    • Scheme and fit matter definitely, but if you are an NFL QB (especially a talented one) there will be flashes and some signs. I think the ones that get their careers broken are in inadequate offenses (bad weapons, bad OL, no running game etc…) and a constant turnover of staff can do it. Basically what the Bears did with Fields and what we have done with Bryce so far.
    • I mean when Rhule was on the hot seat and finally got fired, we got pumped and Wilks truly brought some culture back to the team for a brief window. Reich came in and when he got canned there was no hope or excitement, we actually got worse and we are still kinda there until proven otherwise. Some are basically trying to sell this as BY's actual rookie year as well which doesn't exactly draw up much enthusiasm and tempers expectations whether that was their intention or not.
    • Yes, but Bryce Young is what amplifies that concern for me for a super green HC and OC.   it’s all and marriages by Tepper IMO.  Canales and the new OC probably would have a better time getting their O running with a vet QB that is a natural fit.   again, I’m not arguing Canales and Morgan should be catering to Bryce at this point.  Just pointing out how pointless drafting Bryce looks at this stage.  And I don’t disagree you either can play or can’t and the O is irrelevant at this level.   I mean fit matters at this level.  Everyone is too talented.  Fit makes or breaks careers.
