BIG takeaway and not directly related to us was Jimmy's commentary on small school prospects, versus a guy like Surtain from ALA who's been coached up all his life. 

I feel like I heard / read about something similar this week, and I had the same thoughts but forgot about it until today.

I found it interesting Rhule asked Jimmy that question. Made me think of Lance.

I thought the same thing. I wonder how you would apply that to Lance. FCS school but perennially the top FCS school.

Also what Jimmy did well was move up and down (more often down) to chase need and also get value.

Great post...very interesting.  Reminds me of a Bill Parcells quote about positional value (which he was pretty big on).  Something to the effect that QBs always come first but on offense you look for guys that can get you a lot of TDs.  Regardless of position those guys can be hard to find.

I used to despise him (because I despise both the U and Dallas) but I can't imagine a better time than fishing and talking football with that man.  There are no better coaches, that is for sure.

Small school question could be about an OL--there are several that I like:

NDSU

Northern Iowa

Miami of Ohio

Marshall

Wisconsin Whitewater or whatever

His comments about small school guys definitely was on the money.  I'd still rather take those guys a bit farther down in the draft (looking at you Trey Lance) but I take the point.  Those guys "potentially" have more room to grow.

App State was, until they moved up to FBS. Big fish in a small pond.
