Interesting quote on Sam Darnold from the Athletic article grading all QB’s in this draft class

Ill stick with my analysis that Darnold is a rich mans Jameis Winston. Some of you may take that as an insult, it isnt. Winston has all the tools but throws a lot of picks but you can win with him. With this staff and system, winston could win 10-11, i think Darnold can win more.   Certainly enough for playoffs if we help him out.

And he saved us from having to move up, costing us a pick.  And if we move back, we basically got him for free--if we trade Teddy---Sam will have cost this team a 4th rounder in 2022.

And people were bitching about the cost--the same people who were ok giving 3 first rounders to Houston for deep tissue love in the box.

Which brings us from the second worst to the worst run organization in football---the Houston "Watson is not being traded" Texans.   Could they make worse decisions? Had they traded him from the get go, they have 3 firsts and Watson is someone else's problem.

I do wonder if that trade would have been voided by the NFL.

Half of this board just wants a QB with swag again so bad they'll be sour until the day it happens.

Darnold's agent would be wise to make him wear a babushka to his next press conference.

Instant swag, apparently. Fan base won over.

An insult? Darnold would have to jump to another ladder to climb enough rungs to get to James Winston level play.

Winston wasn't even in the realm of bad Darnold was. TB actually set Wisnton up with almost everything he needed to be successful and he did have some really good years because of it. Its why Tom Brady wanted to play for TB. He's actually in a 100% better situation with us and we dont have half the talent TB does.

    • The people at the top of chiefs. bills, and 49ers the owners, coaches, GM are just light years better than panthers. Purdy was a life saver for 49ers, otherwise lynch and shanny would have been fired. I seen a recent report that after a few practices shanny told York purdy was the best QB on the roster. Better than jimmyg, lance, darnold.    I hope Morgan and canalas show they close the gap, at least tepper spends plenty.......
    • What on earth are you talking about. Only Mahomes can not have everything great around him and succeed. Do you think Josh Allen would have succeeded with that supporting cast last year with the Panthers? They were so far behind all the good teams at WR, TE, RB, and OL. Burrow needs Chase and Higgins. Herbert still hasn't succeeded despite way better OL and WR play than the Panthers. Literally every team ever, besides Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Mahomes needs players around him to succeed. Are you holding out hope we get that caliber of QB? It's not like they grow on trees.
    • Defense is fine. Evero being back is the most important thing for the defense. He will have them playing solid and the drop off from Burns to Clowney is negligible (if not and improvement, becuase Burns was lost on run support). Horn if he plays is way better than what we had last season and I do think they'll still bring in Gilmore or a vet once we get closer to week 1. Team's win total focuses solely on Bryce and putting up points and Legette, Johnson and Mingo improving. I wonder if Canales will get Bryce out of the pocket and roll him out more where Bryce is much better. Reich and Brown seemed hell bent in making Bryce learn from the pocket where he wasn't comfortable. Also more Bryce runs/scrambles to keep the defense honest.
