lord some of you babies whine too damn much, whine because they got rid of washed up cam, whine for signing TB for two years, whine TB sucked, whine about not getting Watson for 3 firsts and 2 seconds,  whine it’s taking Tepper longer than one off-season to find a franchise qb and then whine some more because a first and a second pick may be spent on two different prospects with potential to be next franchise qb

like damn tep burns down beach houses because of people like you

Tep isn’t exactly the ‘stay patient and hope for the best’ type.

I get that. And that's likely why he's pushing for Fields. He has said that there are three components to fielding a consistently competitive NFL team - coach, GM, and QB. He's pretty sure he's checked two of the three boxes but there's still a big question mark on the third. I don't think he would be pushing for Fields if we didn't really like him ("we" meaning the football people). Sure, we may have an OT or a CB rated higher than Fields. Great. But, an OT or a CB isn't one of Tepper's core components. If you don't have a franchise QB and you think there's a franchise QB available, you take the QB. Period. A Joe Thomas isn't carrying an average QB to the Super Bowl and neither is a Darrelle Revis. You NEED a franchise QB to consistently compete. A top tier LT or CB are nice pieces but you can build a great team without one. You can't build a great team without a franchise QB.

I just can’t believe it why do u give all those picks for someone if ur just going to draft one. I really hope it’s a smokescreen. I mean if we didn’t trade for Darnold I would be all for it but now I think that would be crazy with all the value with all these other guys especially LT

Because a QB falling isn't guaranteed, and they are DONE with Teddy. Darnold is insurance, don't know why this is lost on so many people here. We really didn't give up anything aside from a future 2nd.

The only thing we gave up this year was our final 6th, 2022 comp picks could come into play next year, the 2nd is the only selection of notoriety but we could flip Darnold, and we're likely to receive some pick capitol once we move TB.

And the 4th next year is easy to recover as well. I don't see any real issues at all.

If you think owners in any organization aren’t going to have some sort of input, you are sadly mistaken. He is very much invested in this team and has made it painfully clear (to the tune of trying to Watson, Stafford, maybe Russ, and Darnold) he wants the QB position addressed. I’m sure he has spoken with Rhule and Fitts on draft scenarios in which they gave their input. Maybe Fields or Lance were players he was high on until speaking with them. We don’t know and probably won’t know.

I wouldn’t mind Fields.  If the Packers can spend an early pick on a QB with Rodgers on the roster, why the heck can’t we?  Same with the Eagles and Hurts...which essentially saved their tails.

People aren't ready for this level of honesty, there's so MANY sold on Darnold and the ''he was on the Jets'' now that he's here he should be better rhetoric.

You know who else was on the Jets, and was Darnold's back up....Teddy, and a lot of y'all anointed him too. We have not SOLVED the QB issue yet, having a LT is great, BUT uhhh, who's throwing the ball?

There are more competent LT prospects than QB's not to mention we can spend FA money for one moving forward with a rookie QB contract in place for 4 years, with the 5 year option in 2026 -- THINK ABOUT THAT POO!

The trade for Darnold was just to give us flexibility entering the draft. So no matter how the draft falls the Panthers are in a good position to either select BPA, trade down for more picks, or maybe even select a QB we believe can be our guy if he falls to #8. Also those picks we gave up was nothing. In the NFL if you do no believe you have a franchise QB and you are not actively looking for one then you are doing something wrong. The cardinals are good example of this.

I really think Tepper is just giving Rhule and Fitts permission to be aggressive.

He’s allowing them to take big bets without fearing for their jobs.

They know these kinds of bets could make the team worse.

They won’t put their necks out like that unless the owner is leading the charge.

At the end of the day, if you're taking big risks you're putting your job on the line. Coaches and GMs know this. They know the expectation of the job. If you don't build a winner you're gonna get fired. That's just the nature of the beast.

Whether he will or won't influence the decision, don't know.

What I do know is that he shouldn't, and if he's smart, he won't.

And to be clear, we don't know for sure what he wants, but I'd say that even if he agreed with everything I think they should do. I'm not gonna change my opinion on owner interference depending on whether he agrees with me or not. It's bad either way.

Let the football people do their jobs.

it makes sense, we tried signing or trading for almost every big name QB this offseason from Haskins to Trubisky. I think Tepper is hell bent on getting the QB position right

I'm not convinced Field's can make it right.

What if the situation is that the football people think Fields is a legit franchise QB prospect, but they'd prefer to pick an OT or CB they have graded higher?

We know Tepper's philosophy. Coach, GM, QB. Everything else is a want. Those are the three needs.

    • He was hurt last game, that's why Rico got more touches.  It's the NFL and injuries are the norm. They did right and went out and got a back that can run. Now prove they chose wisely
    • He was a project coming out of college and seeing that he doesn’t care much he won’t make it IMO
    • My very UNPOPULAR opinion:   First, I would want to know the locker room.  Have they turned on Canales?  If not, I would stay with him.  Here is why: Switching coaches every year or two is not the answer to long term success.  We are chasing hope instead of building a program around a young coach.  There were not many applicants for this job and if you think they are suddenly dying to be here now, that MIGHT justify a coaching change Canales has made some tough decisions (like benching Bryce), but his weaknesses (the team's weaknesses) have been in the areas in which we have neglected or sucked for years.  Who did we get for CMC?  Who made the trade with the Bears when we had no idea at the time who we wanted?  Who drafted Mingo, Marshall, XL, etc.?  Who signed a frequently-injured CB to the biggest contract in NFL history at the time for a CB?  I look at the personnel decisions and the play calling.  Our edge players are injured and not that good when healthy. He played Johnson because he had nothing left.  Johnson was terrible Sunday.  He has nothing at LB and two starting OL are now out.  XL is pouting because he does not seem to have paid the price to be paid the price of a first round pick.  AT was sent packing.  Bryce's resurgence last year may have been Canales and not Bryce. Evero still does not have the tools he needs to succeed--on the field or perhaps between his ears.   If Canales fires Evero, he is probably doing the right thing.  Remember, we had a lot of money in dead cap when Canales took over.  Fitterer was the worst GM since Matt Millen in the NFL, and we have sucked recently in the first round of the draft (Bryce, XL) until this season.   When the GM is trying to give the coach what he needs to be successful and you keep changing coaches, it is difficult.   I think this--stay with Canales, but bring in a veteran DC.  Some argue that Canales needs to move on from Bryce, but this team is not set up to give him options.  Andy aint the answer.  We never seem to take the PS QB seriously--all eggs are in one basket.  Canales needs options. This team needs to address the QB situation.  Bryce's best games are not Lombardi worthy, so move on.  He is not the Alpha a young coach needs on the field.  Give him options at QB, some LBs and a good coordinator on defense, and I think we could use another stud WR.  It is time to start drafting developmental OL and start grooming them to replace our aging OL. This draft is solid at QB as it stands now.  We need to focus on drafting the right guy and signing a veteran backup who is not the starting QB's BFF.  Compete.  Heck, i have no problem doing what Cleveland did--draft a QB in round 1 and then another QB if one falls into day 3.   I think we need stability and I am not confident any respectable coach comes to Carolina.  Canales is frustrated, but the front office has failed him, as have injuries, and a really bad draft a few years ago that brought them Bryce.  He was hired to fix Bryce--so I say neuter him so he does not sire any more 5'8" QBs.   Canales is better that Rivera was--Canales just has so much less talent.  Rivera was coach of the year a few times because he had Cam Newton, but could never put two winning seasons together.  That is a crime.
