They're not going to trade up in the first. They're all too chicken poo.

The front office are scared. Fitt, Tepper, Rhule are all trying to play the safest they can. It's why Horn was the pick. It's someone they evaluated to the point they knew what they were getting, and stuck with. It's a lot like Dave Gettleman's time in Carolina where he fell in love with certain prospects and made sure he stuck with them, telegraphing it the entire way.

If they trade up it's going to be mid 2nd and 3rd round for a prospect they're afraid won't be there, just like Dave Gettleman, unfortunately.

OK so they had Horn the #1 CB on their board.  A shut down, press, man-coverage CB who is as good in Zone as he is on an island.  Last year, teams completed 71% of their passes against us outside the numbers.  The team did not get off the field on 3rd down HALF of the times.  We were ranked 31 of 32.  Colleges had a 30% completion rate against Horn--think about that.

There are no CB1s available in free agency.  There are no CB1s available after picks 1-20.

He was the #1 player on their board at #8 for that reason.

What part of picking that player means "scared" to you?  I seriously doubt a second QB or Slater would have been able to cover Thomas, Jones, or Evans.  I seriously doubt they would see the field much if the defense can't get off the field.  It was the ONLY move they should have made--and yes, they wanted Fields and Slater--Tepper wanted Fields badly---what argument do you think they used to convince the owner to sit back and let them take Horn?  The one I just provided.

Telling the owner they like Horn more than his care is being "scared" these days, eh? Lol some of these posters man. It really does my head in.

lol at 2 picks equating to "Mortgaging our future". You sure go all in against Sam.

It's a lot less about the picks and a lot more about foregoing the opportunity to pursue a potential legit franchise QB prospect due to Darnold being here. And for the record for clarification, it's three picks.

Realistic.

Panthers are a two time Super Bowl loser and 3 in row losing season team for a reason.

lol...You do realize that all but last year is on the previous regime? By all means, don't let a little thing like facts ruin your spiel.

yeah, nothing about picking Horn at #8 says the Panthers org is scared and trying to pick the safest players possible.

The safest pick wasn’t Horn at #8.  It was a somewhat bold move.   There were safer players at 8.   Probably could argue Surtain was the safest DB. Horn probably the highest ceiling of the DBs.

To be honest, our best season by far under Tepper was his first which was still with all of JR's football people in place. Still waiting to see this big impact he's going to have on the football side of the operation because so far I can't say that I'm impressed.

He is so overdramatic. It's hilarious.

You're always confident to the point of arrogance with the moves made by a team with an overall losing record. Our record under Tepper is considerably worse than the overall record. It might be time to come to grips with your delusion.

How on earth are 2 later round picks going to prevent us from acquiring a franchise QB? And what has that have to do with "Mortgaging our future"?

We get it. Once again, the Panthers have broken your heart where it comes to QB. But let's not go overboard trying to make it worse than it actually is.

    • I used to think Juan was a Zod alt. Agree he's a great poster.
    • Hawks said nah we good and sent him to the shadow realm aka the Wizards. Cold blooded. I mean they're 2-2 in a series with a young up and coming Knicks team largely through 34 year old CJ McCollum. Even if they ultimately lose the series at least they are there and have something to build on. I think Hornets fans are just beaten down and lack the objectivity to assess the situation. They think we are going to get so much worse if and when we finally change gears. Worse how? We've already been a lottery team for years now. We've already been looking to win our first playoff series in about a quarter century. We already can't get past the play in and in failing to do so we have completely embarrassed ourselves twice looking like we don't even belong. Honestly there is absolutely no excuse for a team like the Magic to be more competitive and successful than us in the playoffs. Absolutely disgusting. But that's just me. I was fuging lit when we got the Hornets back in Charlotte but that is old old news. It's time for these boys to get into a playoff series. Enough is enough. If they can't do it for 2026-27 then they need to make wholesale changes regardless.
    • Not one single pick that is asking me why we drafted a guy in the first place. It was a guy we needed and/or a guy that had certain traits making them stand out. Best of all, I feel everyone we drafted are capable of stepping onto the field this year and have a meaningful role (even Kuwatch on special teams). Obviously, nothing is guaranteed but I'm not seeing any huge flags on guys because they're risky projects or massive overreaches.
