Yes to this, I hope Christiansen starts but Leno would be good insurance policy

Exactly.  Way too much of a risk to go into the season without another option.

I've read though that Leno's college coach is now with the Colts who also need a LT and they are the favorites to sign him... one can hope though

Please happen. Regardless of how good Christensen looks as a prospect we can't rely on a 3rd round rookie to start at LT. If Christensen turns out to be that good day 1 then great but I would rather have insurance so that we're not married to either him or Scott/Little.

It'll come down to money and where he thinks is best for him.

True... which is why we are going to need to be aggressive with the money (within reason) to convince him to come here

Adding Leno with the other draft additions we've made would give us a legitimate O Line and would leave Darnold's development and performance the only real question mark (on paper) for a tremendously improved roster

Would be a nice pickup for Darnold. He’s not elite but he’s very good.

True... and Christensen might be great... just a tremendous amount of risk not to have someone you know can start at LT to begin the season.

I would much rather have a dependable and proven guy like Leno (who has started every game over the last 7 seasons) even with a lower ceiling as an option than just rolling with Cam Irving, Trent Scott, Greg Little, etc. and hoping we can make do.

Best case for everyone is that Christensen is able to lock down the LT spot... that's a huge ask for a 3rd round rookie though

This is a tremendously improved roster outside of the glaring question marks that remain at LT and QB.  And addressing LT will help QB

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
