Bears Release Starting LT Charles Leno

This would make things feel very complete this offseason and would much prefer this over the Erving vs. Christensen vs. Scott training camp battle.

Erving (G/T) and Elflein (C/G) could assume their spots as swing linemen backups, Christensen starts at LG, Scott becomes the backup LT, we release Little.

Leno-Christensen-Paradis-Miller-Moton

Do it

True class act. I read a story where he slept at a fellow players house on an air mattress bc he didn't know his future when he first arrived to Chicago.

He welcomed the new guy with open arms and sent a nice shoutout to Chicago for giving him a chance.

Sign him for Darnold and let Christensen learn behind a vet. Just not too long....Christensen will be 25 in September.

I guess if he comes as a cheap insurance policy, but according to my friend who is a Bears fan, this dude sucks.  And the fact they released him after drafting a rookie LT tells me I dont think this was just cap related.

Fair points... I don't think anyone should see Leno as the "answer" at LT, but I would feel a lot better if we signed someone like Leno or Okung for one more year to have an established veteran presence while Christensen and the other young guys continue to develop.  I like Irving for his versatility, but I would feel much better having someone who is an established LT

Not sure it will be good for us.  He was making 9+ per season, and the dude is 29.  That generally isn't the type of player we've been signing in the Rhule era.

It would be a 1 year rental.  Just to take the pressure off starting the rookie.

We need to add an experienced, capable LT to this roster. Scott isn’t the answer. Little is a complete wild card. Christensen is a rookie.

Not sure if they have any plans for Moton at LT. They’re paying him a bunch of money on a franchise deal. It’d be nice if he was able to make the permanent move.

But if not I think you have to sign someone like Leno who was a cap casualty more than a performance casualty. The Bears were a dumpster fire with Trubisky and Leno was still within the top 10 tackles in the league as far as sacks allowed. Gotta assume some of those sacks are on MT. Bring him in on a one year deal. Let one of the young guys develop behind him.

I wouldn't be surprised if they let Moton walk after this year.

    • There is a Grand Canyon-sized chasm between your opinion and the opinions of most former player hockey guys who do this for a living.
    • I can only imagine the **** eating grins on the committee right now. "Oh, Bama didn't deserve it? Oh, Miami didn't deserve it? Suck it, haters!" lol
    • To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.
